Report by the Rev.
FAW Cup Semi Final First Leg
Wrexham 3 Cardiff City 1
City goal Christian Roberts

A typical welcome for the forty or so travelling fans last night at the
Racecourse: Police Video Surveillance cameras, police helicopter flying
overhead and drowning out what little atmosphere the 1500 crowd
generated, more police than City fans and more stewards again! Are they
real? The CCSC took one minibus, a few other stragglers and Sully's Mum
& Dad don't exactly make up a serious threat to national secuirity, do
they?

Anyway, rant over, the game was interestingly unbalanced, Wrexham had a
novice keeper as did we, Ian Loveless, but their attack was full
strength, Spink & Connolly, with Rush on the bench, whereas City fielded
the sorriest excuse for a back three you'll ever see! Jarman, Philips &
Skelly. The latter to be fair got into it late on: he had to due to the
awfulness of the other two. Wingbacks were Sully on the left and
Cadette on the right, with Dai Thomas & Jason Bowen up front, and a
marvellous midfield of Hill, Fowler & Carpenter.
So you can almost predict how it went: City were great going forward,
with the passing and movement of Bowen & the midfield quite superb, but
looked dreadful in defence. Remember Barnet? Remember the performance
of Lee Phillips that day, well sorry to say, this was worse..we're
talking about a second year professional here! He completely missed a
header for Wrexhams first, and fell over leaving them with a free header
for their third. Coupled with Ian Loveless being nutmegged for their
second, you can see how the game went beyond us. Robbo poached one to
make it 2-1 in the second half & Dai, to be fair, looked strong and
willing, but just as we seemed to be heading for a draw or a slender
defeat with an away goal scored, another defensive blunder cost us the
matach & the FAW cash!! With a strong defence we would have murdered
Wrexham, so there is still hope, but our strength in depth is non-
existent at the back!
