from Total Wales. Kevin Nugents
double strike helped Cardiff City go top of Group A of the FAW Premier Cup following a
determined performance at Farrar Road.
Dai Thomas gave the Bluebirds a seventh-minute lead when he headed in Chris Allens
left-wing cross from close range.
Thomas was foiled by Neil Fishers goal-line clearance and Jason Fowler saw his drive
deflected away as the visitors dominated.
Nugent doubled the lead after eighteen minutes when he tapped in after Allens effort
hit the woodwork following slick play by Mark Delaney and Fowler.
Bangors keeper Lee Williams denied Fowler with his legs. A probing ball by
Scott Young split the home defence, but Thomas failed to hit the target.
Darren Hilditch was the most prominent player for the home side in the opening period. He
fired wide twice beforethe break while Chris Sharetts free kick hit the
visitors defensive wall before rebounding to safety.
Another flowing move by Frank Burrowss side involving Delaney and Wayne
OSullivan led to Nugents effort beingblocked.
However, the striker atoned moments later when his solo effort extended the visitors
lead eight minutes before the break.
Williams denied Thomas at the start of the second half while Jon Hallworth held a Hilditch
effort at the other end.
Williams acrobatically kept out another Thomas effort after 58 minutes, but was beaten
when substitute Craig Middleton scored the fourth after 69 minutes. Fellow substitute
Chris Roberts saw his drive hit a post, but he returned the ball for Middleton to head
home.
Substitute Neil Wenham reduced the arrears twelve minutes from time but Cardiff easily
held out to avenge a shock home defeat by the League of Wales side last month. |
