He wants to represent his country of origin Zambia. Scott Young looks likely to be for for Sundays game against Swansea. Its probable that Mark Harris will join him in defence. The 32 year old former Wigan striker is having a medical today. He, along with loan signing Glen Crowe, will miss tonights FAW game with Wrexham due to a seven day registration process. Carl Dale looks set to be on the bench again tonight. Steve White will play up front because Saville and Crowe are ineligible. Craig Middleton and Gareth Stoker also look like playing. Sunday 26th October 1997 After returning from holiday last weeks events seem to be as follows. The game tomorrow v Wrexham is not being shown live by the BBC. Highlights will be shown on BBC 1 at 11:30pm. Early in the week it looks like the Fortune West deal is off. City play a 0-0 draw at Darlington on Tuesday. The squad must be really depleated as Tony Philliskirk managed to get on the bench. The signing of striker Andy Saville from Wigan is imminent although it was not completed before yesterdays game it should be sewn up early next week. We did make a last minute loan signing on Friday. Glen Crowe joined us from Wolves on a months load. He scored the equaliser against Hartlepool in his debut yesterday. Swansea parted with manager Mickey Adams after 13 days. Saturday 25th October 1997 RESULT Tuesday 21st October 1997 RESULT Saturday 18th October 1997 RESULT Friday 17th October 1997 There is still no news on the proposed transfer of Leo Fortune-West. Maybe it will be sorted by the time I come back off holiday next week. Injuries are once again the feature of tomorrows team selection. Players who are out are, Scott Partridge, Carl Dale, Kevin Nugent, Kevin Lloyd, Scott Young, Christian Roberts, Jeff Eckhardt and both reserve goalkeepers John Rendall and Tony Elliott. City's probable line up is, Hallworth, Middleton, Harris, Jarman, Beech, O'Sullivan, Penney, Fowler, Carss, White and Greenacre. Subs Stoker, Rollo and Phillips. Lee Jarman is to accompany Mark Harris in the central defence after an outstanding performance captaining the Wales U21 team last week. No sign yet of Russell Osman naming himself in the squad. Chris Greenacre has agreed to stay at Cardiff for another month. Good news. Wednesday 15th October 1997 After yesterdays meeting its been reported that Leo Fortune-West will make his decision with the next 48 hrs. Hopefully in time to play on Saturday if he decides to join us. Continental style drumming is to come to Ninian Park. City are hoping to have two drummers in place by the the time Swansea come to visit. They say they are trying to build up the atmosphere at Ninian and it will contnue at all Cardiff's home games. Tuesday 14th October 1997 Leo Fortune-West was in Cardiff today for talks with Kenny Hibbitt. It is understood that Gillingham and Cardiff have agreed a fee of £115,000 for the striker but Gillingham have offered the player an extention to his contract. It now up to the 6'4 striker to make his mind up. He will go away from Cardiff today to make his descision. Russell Osman is re-registering himself as a player. He wants to play in the FAW cup games that are coming up. He feels that he can better assess the defensive situation at the Club. He is not the oldest player we have. He is actually younger, by some six weeks, than Steve White. Osman is a full England International and has played over 550 league games for Ipswich, Leicester, Southampton and Bristol City The home match with Scunthorpe has been rearranged for Tuesday November 11th. Kick off at 7:30pm. There is an injury worry over Scott Partridge. He fell down stairs at his home yesterday and knocked out three teeth. He also has a swollen jaw which is being seen by a specialist today. Monday 13th October 1997 Still no confiemed news on the signing of Leo Fortune West. Gillingham say the player has to talk to the Charirman at Gillingham. City are still hoping to have it sorted this week. No rearranged date yet for the Scunthorpe game. Tuesday November 11th has been mentioned but nothing definate. Friday 10th October 1997 There has been activity on the Leo Fortune West front. Gillingham are considering Cardiff's £130,000 offer and the player and his manager are having talks. West would like to come to Cardiff next week to see the set up and he is also talking to his girl friend about moving to S.Wales. Scott Young is out of the Wales U21 team for tonights game in Belgium. Young hurt his back while playing for Cardiff last weekend and has not been able to get fully fit. Lee Jarman and Lee Phillips are both in contention to play tonight. Thursday 9th October 1997 City reserve John Cross has signed a one month loan deal with local League of Wales team Inter Cable Tel. Wednesday 8th October 1997 Saturdays home game with Scunthorpe has been postponed due to International call ups. Lee Phillips, Scott Young and Lee Jarman are all on duty for Wales U21 away in Belgium on Friday night. The cancellation should help Kenny Hibbitt who has further injury worries after Jeff Eckhardt damaged medial ligaments at Wrexham last night. Fulham manager Ray Wilkins has confirmed that Cardiff have made enquiries about striker Mick Conroy. Conroy scored against us the 0 - 2 defeat at Ninian last season. Swansea City have today scaked manager Jan Molby. It follows a recent bad run in which Swansea have lost their last 5 matches. Tuesday 7th October 1997 RESULT A solid performance from Cardiff has given them 3 points from the first match they have played in the FAW Invitation Cup. Over the 90 minutes Cardiff were the better side and created more chances. The only goal of the game came from a Mark McGregor own goal in the last 15 mins. A quality corner from Anthony Carss was volleyed into his own net by McGregor who seemed to use the wrong foot to try to clear. Cardiff will settle for the win and the £3,000 that goes with it. There is an injury scare over Jeff Eckhardt. Jeff has damaged ligaments in tonights victory at the Racecourse. Last Saturday Jeff played in a centre forward role due to the long term injuries to Carl Dale and Kevin Nugent so it is a blow that a "third" striker is now injured. Lee phillips has been drafted into the Wales U21 squad. This means that Cardiff now have 3 players on International duty for the U21 game against Belgium on Friday. It is now up to the club if they want to call off Saturdays home game with Scunthorpe. Christian Roberts the 17 year old YTS youth striker has today signed a two year professional contract with the Bluebirds. Roberts played in the home victory over Rochdale but was injured soon after in training. He is about a week away from playing again and will be boosted by the contract. Sunday 5th October 1997 Please be advised that the FAW Cup game at Wrexham on Tuesday is live on BBC 2 Wales. Local press are saying that City's No.1 striker target is now Mike Conroy of Fulham. City are also believed to be interested in Charlton's Carl Leaburn and Mark Bright, the latter formerly of Sheff Wed. Saturday 4th October 1997 RESULT After a good first half which saw Cardiff leading 1 - 0. We lost the plot in the second half and were lucky not to lose the game. Friday 3rd October 1997 Talk of signing an 18 year old French player have turned out to be false. Kenny Hibbitt has told Clubcall that he is letting Guy Odie train with the City squad next week, but up until now he has never met the boy. He has agreed the training sessions as a favour to somebody. Its possible that Jeff Eckhardt may start up front tomorrow along side Chris Greenacre. Lee Jarman would then probably come into the defence. Hibbitt will not name his team until an hour before kick off tomorrow. Thursday 2nd October 1997 Gillingham have turned down Cardiff's £100,000 plus offer for Leo Fortune-West. City are still looking for a striker and may have to increase the bid. David Penney looks certain to make his home debut against Barnet on Saturday. City reserves were beaten 1 - 3 at AFC Bournemoth yesterday. 16 year old Robert Earnshaw scored the opeing goal for Cardiff, thats his 14th strike in 9 youth/friendly games this season. Wednesday 1st October 1997 Cardiff City's new new home and away shirts are due to go on sale at the end of this week. It is hoped a full range of blue and yellow kits will be available before Saturday. Adult shirts will cost £35.00. The much talked about 3rd kit in the style of "Barcelona's" home shirt will be another month or so. It seems that Cardiff will only use this 3rd kit once or twice this season. Only a small number have been ordered and advance bookings mean most are sold out already. |
