Saturday 29th November 1997 RESULT Carl Dale came to City's rescue with a 69th minute equaliser. Cardiff will be satisfied with a draw but Scarboro will feel they should have taken all three points. City again failed to convert first half possession with Scarboro scoring on the break in the 41st minute. City came out fighting in the second half and scored with their best move of the match on 69 minutes. A cross from Carss was met well on the back post by Saville who headed back across goal and although O'Sullivan could not finish the ball fell to Carl Dale who bundled it home. City could have had the winner minutes later butRhodes in the 'boro goal made a great double save from Tony Carss. Scarboro then looked the most likely to score but it was man of the match Tony Elliott who kept City in the game. Thursday 27th November 1997 Cardiff will be without Scott Young for the visit of Scarboro to Ninian Park on Saturday. Young was stretchered from the field during the Slough match with a neck injury. The rearranged date for the away FAW Invitation Cup game with Newtown is Tuesday 23rd December 1997. Tuesday 25th November 1997 RESULT Cardiff were pushed all the way by non league Slough Town. Cardiff run out winners with a goal scored in extra time by Steve White. City now face non league Hendon who won away at Orient tonight. Tonight the Bluebirds hope to progress to the second round of the FA Cup. The full squad for tonights game is: Hallworth, Elliott, Middleton, Beech, Young, Harris, O'Sullivan, Penney, Fowler, Stoker, Partridge, Carss, Dale, Saville, White, Jarman, Phillips, Rollo. The winners of tonights game will play at home to either Leyton Orient or Hendon who also replay tonight. Monday 24th November 1997 Wolves manager Mark McGee has changed his mind and allowed Glen Crowe to stay at Ninian Park for another month. Cardiff will be forced into at least two changes for tomorrow nights FA Cup replay at home to Slough. Scott Paterson and Glen Crowe are both cup tied so it's likely that Craig Middleton and Carl Dale will replace them. Jon Hallworth is back in contention after missing Saturday's away win at Brighton. Saturday 22nd November 1997 RESULT An own goal by Derek Allan in the 20th minute was enought to give Cardiff their third away win of the season and their second successive victory. Scott Young looks likely to replace the suspended Craig Middleton. The rest of the squad is unchanged. Friday 21st November 1997 Glen Crowe has been recalled by Wolves. He will return to the Midlands after tomorrows game away at Brighton. Cardiff have been drawn at home to Millwall in the first round of the Auto Windscreens Shield. The match is to be played on Tuesday 9/12/97. Swansea and Wrexham have both been given bye's to round 2. Tuesday 18th November 1997 RESULT A less than convincing second half performance will not detract form a vital win for the Bluebirds. After 20 minutes City were 2 up and looking rampant but in the end we made it to ninety minutes and three points. Skipper David Penney paid back the fans and the club with a captains performance including the second goal on 19 minutes and striker Andy Saville scored the opener after only 2 minutes. Duane Darby pulled one back for Hull but it was not enough to stop Cardiff's celebrations. Cardiff go into tonights Div 3 clash with Hull City with three fit strikers. Russell Osman will choose between Carl Dale and Glen Crowe to partner Andy Saville as the Cardiff team look for their first win in the league since September 13th. Scott Paterson replaces the suspended Scott Young and Lee Jarman has recovered from injury and is pushing for a squad place. Monday 17th November 1997 The date of the FA Cup first round replay against Slough has been confirmed. Ninian park will welcome Slough on Tuesday 25th Novemeber, kick off 7:30pm. The FAW Invitation match away at Newtown has been postponed with no new date arranged yet. Scott Young misses tomorrows game at home to Hull after being sent off against Swansea. Scott Paterson comes back into the team after being cup tied on the weekend. The AutoWindscreen shield does exist. The first round draw is being made on Thursday this week. Just what we need, more games we can draw. Sunday 16th November 1997 Cardiff will have a home draw against either Hendon (who we beat at Ninian Park in last seasons competition) or Leyton Orient in the second round of the FA Cup, but only if they beat Slough in the replay at Ninian Park.
The date of the replay against Slough is not confirmed yet. Cardiff have an FAW Invitation match the same week and I am waiting for confirmation of the fixtures. Saturday 15th November 1997 RESULT Cardiff are about to embark on a fixture pile up after todays draw at Slough. Wayne O'Sullivans early strike was not enough to carry Cardiff through to the second round with Slough equalising on 68 mins. City now have to play on 18/11 (Hull home), 22/11 (Brighton away), 24/11 (Newtown away), 26/11 (Slough home) and 29/11 (Scarboro home). City's visitors this Tuesday, Hull City, were knocked out of the cup today by non - league Hednesford. Friday 14th November 1997 Cardiff travel to Slough Town tomorrow for the first round of the Littlewoods sponsored FA Cup. The probable line up will be: Hallworth, Middleton, Beech, Young, Harris, Fowler, O'Sullivan, Penney Stoker, Saville and Dale. The subs bench will probably contain: Elliott, Carss,Phillips, White and Partridge. On paper City are favourites but as the game is played on grass its anybody's match. Hopefully we will be in the draw for the second round on Sunday. Thursday 13th November 1997 Clubcall today is playing an interview with Russell Osman. This is not quoted directly but it runs something like......Chesterfield did well last season, theres no reason why Cardiff City can't go all the way and become FA Cup finalists at Wembley this season......... Less said the better Mr Osman. Maybe thats why we are poor in the league at the moment. The boys are lining up a return to Wembely, 71 years after our last visit. John Cross has left Cardiff and signed for Dr Martens team Dorchester. John had been on loan to Inter CabelTel but has now signed to play for Dorchester until the end of the season. Saturdays FA Cup game at Slough Town will see a return to the starting line up for Carl Dale and Scott Young. They will come in for Glen Crowe and Scott Paterson who are only on loan and do not want to be cup tied by Wolves and Bristol City respectively. Paterson will be back in the team for Tuesdays home game against Hull City as Scott Young has a one match ban after his sending off against Swansea. Cardiff are able to name 5 substitutes for the Cup game but only three can be used. Wednesday 12th November 1997 Results of the poll as to whether Hibbitt / Osman should be sacked or resign are as follows. YES they should be sacked or
resign ...........................64% Two thirds of the fans who replied believe both should be dismissed. This comes as a result of the team being unable to convert possession into goals. The fans are fed up with the inability to score goals and win matches. Last nights draw was the 11th out of 17 league matches this season. After a good footballing first half City lacked committment in the second half. Chances were created but not finished. Scunthorpe did not look like their league position and Cardiff were the better team. Jon Hallworth had very little to do as most of the action was in the Scunthorpe direction. Saville missed a couple a golden chances but there must be serious doubt over David Penney. The best I can say about him he was anonymous. His contribution and committment were poor. Gareth Stoker on the otherhand worked tirelessly giving 110 % for 90 minutes. The other player to stand out was Scott Paterson. He had an excellent game and if we could sign him permanently would be a real asset. Tuesday 11th November 1997 RESULT Cardiff go into tonights game looking to stop the run of draws and to start winning again. City have to go back 11 matches to the 13th of September sice the last league victory. Kenny Hibbitt and Russell Osman, both under pressure from the fans but not the boardroom, are still hopeful of a promotion push this season. They are convinced they are doing the right thing and it will only be a matter of time before we start to come good. For their sake, as well as the clubs, I hope it comes sooner rather than later as the fans have already started to show their dissapproval be staying away from Ninian Park. Last Saturdays crowd was less than half that of the previous week against Swansea and also less than half of the attendance at our first home game v Notts County. The chairman surely will not allow this sort of occurance to continue. When he starts being hit in the pocket he will act, whatever he may have previously said. Good luck to Wales tonight. They play Brazil is Brasilia. It's likely that former Bluebird Simon "Bambi" Haworth will start the match due to the absence of John Hartson and Nathan Blake. The match is being televised live by BBC Wales. Kick off 0030 hrs. Kevin Nugent is progressing in his rehabilitation. He is at Lilleshall this week for intensive treatment. It is hoped that he may be able to make a return before Christmas. Monday 10th November 1997 Email Vote. Should Hibbitt and Osman be sacked/resign? Send an email to.. m4morris@dial.pipex.com In the subject line put "POLL" Just answer a simple YES or NO. Closing time to vote 1200 hrs Wednesday 12/11/97. Results will be published later that day. There is a change of date for the FAW Invitation match away at Newtown. It will now be on Monday 24th November and will be screened live on BBC Wales. Scott Youngs sending off against Swansea last week has earned him a one match ban. This will be the game against against Hull City at Ninian Park on Tuesday 18/11/87. Craig Middleton, who was sent off on Saturday against Torquay will also receive a one match ban. His will be against Brighton at Gillingham's Priestfield Stadium later this month. Saturday 8th November 1997 RESULT Cardiff continued the amazing run of draws. They have now drawn 10 out of 16 league matches this season. Their contenders for the draw king championship, Hartlepool Utd, kept the pressure on Cardiff with their 10th drawn of the season as well today. They played away at Scunthorpe, City's next opponent. It would be a fool to predict anything other than an equal scoreline at Ninian on Tuesday. Craig Middleton was sent off today for a second bookable offence. Cardiff again had to come from behind at home when Andy McFarlane scored on 51 mins for Torquay. Gareth Stoker earned a draw for City with a 30 yard shot which took a wicked deflection and gave Matt Gregg no chance in the Torquay goal. Friday 7th November 1997 Cardiff have today signed central defender Scott Paterson on a months loan from Bristol City. Patterson will team up again with Russell Osman who was with Bristol City before he came to Cardiff. Paterson is 25 and signed for Bristol City from Liverpool. His only previous club.
Carl Dale is looking for a place in the starting line up after making 3 substitute appearances in recent games. Cardiff are hoping that Dale and Saville can become the divisions deadliest strike partners. Thursday 6th November 1997 Samesh Kumar has told Clubcall he has faith in Kenny and Russell. He, like the others, blame our poor performances on the injuries sustained to several key players. Tickets for the FA Cup game at Slough on the 15th will be on general sale after Saturdays home game v Torquay. At the moment they are available to season ticket holders only. Tuesday 4th November 1997 RESULT Andy Saville scored his first goal for the club to earn a 1 - 1 draw at Belle Vue. Prince Moncrieffe scored his sixth goal this season for Doncaster on 54 mins but Saville equalised 5 minutes later. This is not the result City were looking for but at least we did not lose. Cardiff will probably keep the same line up tonight that was used at Ninian last Sunday. Craig Middleton should have recovered from a knock he received late in the game against Swansea. Doncaster have not won in the league so far this season and have conceeded 38 goals. 3 points in the bag it would seem but I for one will not be putting any money on Cardiff. FA AWAITING CARDIFF REPORTSBy David Anderson, PA Sport Cardiff are waiting to hear if they will be punished over the crowd trouble which marred yesterday's South Wales Nationwide League division three derby against Swansea at Ninian Park. Police had to stop a section of Cardiff fans who were trying to reach the Swansea supporters during the Swans' 1-0 victory. Both the Football Association and the Football Association of Wales are trying to establish what exactly happened before they decide what to do next. FA spokesman Steve Double said: "We're waiting for the referee's report and any other relevant reports before we consider what action to take, if any." FAW spokesman Mark Evans said: "We have not seen the referee or police reports and until we do nothing will happen." The trouble started moments after Swansea took an 11th-minute lead through centre-back Keith Walker. Several Cardiff fans broke out of the seated Canton Stand and raced along the unused terraces in front of the Bob Bank Stand to try to get to the Swansea supporters behind the other goal. They were stopped before they could get there by a posse of police and stewards but showed no signs of dispersing until the dogs were brought in. Sunday 2nd November 1997 RESULT Cardiff have again failed to win at home. It was made worse because we were defeated by bitter rivals Swansea City. Saturday 1st November 1997 Yesterdays confusion over the signing of Andy Saville has passed. The player has trained with the rest of the squad, has been given his kit and is ready to face Swansea tomorrow. 5,000 are expected at Ninian Park tomorrow. Seems pretty low to me. |
