Monday 30th June 1997

Spurs are once again coming to Ninian Park in a pre season friendly. The match will be played on Wednesday 30th July 1997.Other friendlies include away matches with Trowbridge (22/7), Yate (24/7) and Bath (26/7).

Friday 27th June 1997

Cardiff have made their first summer signing. Goalkeeper Jon Hallworth comes to Cardiff on a free transfer and has signed a 3 year deal. John has joined us from Oldham Athletic where he made over 250 appearances, most noteably an FA Cup semi final appearance against Manchester Utd. John is 31 years old and was signed by Oldham in 1989 from Ipswich Town for a fee of £125000. Hallworth only lost his place in the Latics side because of injury.

Swansea City's captain and top goalscorer from last season David Penney has joined Cardiff City today signing a 2 year contract. The fee will be decided by tribunal. Penney is an effective goalscoring midfielder.

Wednesday 25th June 1997

Andy Gray's refusal to take the Everton managers job means that Kenny Hibbitt will be staying at Ninian Park. Hibbitt was tipped to join Gray as a coach at Everton.

Cardiff's matches against Torquay Utd next season have been swapped. The game at Ninian Park will now be on Saturday 8th November and the away game next March.

Friday 20th June 1997

Kenny Hibbitt could be leaving Ninian Park. City's Director of Football has been linked with a coaching job at Premiership team Everton if Andy Gray gets the managers job. The two former players are old friends from their days together at Wolves.

Jason Perry will join Bristol Rovers on a free transfer. Subject to a medical the player will sign shortly. Perry was unhappy at only being offered a one year contract.

Sky are planning to televise Cardiff's home Division 3 game against Swansea. The game will be moved to Sunday 2nd November with a 12:00pm kick off.

Thursday 19th June 1997

The Jason Perry saga is being closely monitored by Bristol Rovers. They believe he will be an ideal player for them.

It looks as if both derby matches aginst Swansea next season are to moved to Sunday kick offs. Both games will be put back 24 hours to the following day.

The Coca Cola Cup dates are confirmed as Tuesday 12th August for the home leg kick off 7:30pm, and the away leg on Tuesday 26th August kick off 7:45pm.

Tuesday 17th June 1997

Cardiff have been drawn against Southend United in the first round of the Coca Cola Cup. The first leg is at Ninian Park w/c 11th August 1997 with the return leg in Southend two weeks later. Southend are now a second division team after being relegated from the 1st Division last season.

Monday 16th June 1997

Next seasons fixtures have been announced. Cardiff start with a trip to Leyton Orient on Saturday 9th August. The season finishes at home to Darlington on the 2nd of May next year. Our first home game is against last seasons other play off semi finalists Chester City, this match is on Saturday 16th August. We play Swansea at home on Saturday 1st of November followed at the Vetch on March 7th 1998. The full fixture list can be found on the Division 3 page.

Other news today has Jimmy Gardner on the verge of joining Exeter City and Tony Philliskirk is still having talks with Scunthorpe and Darlington. The club say they are talking to some "big name" players with a view to them signing for Cardiff, but so far no names and no signings.

Friday 6th June 1997

Cardiff's first pre season friendly has been aranged against Trowbridge. The match is to be played at Twerton Park on Monday 12th July 1997 @ 7:30pm.

All the players offered contracts have signed new deals. Except that is for Jason Perry. "Psycho" is still deciding whether to accept a new one year deal.

Wednesday 4th June 1997

Simon Haworth has completed his £500,000 move to Coventry City.

Next seasons fixture lists are due to be released on the 16th/17th of June. The Coca Cola Cup draw is due for the following day.

Cardiff are quoted as 12/1 for the third division title.
