DARLINGTON 3 - 0 CARDIFF CITY. Match Report.

Darlington added insult to last Saturdays injury at Feethams today. Two goals from Roberts and a third from De Vos condemned Cardiff to their heaviest defeat so far this season. Poor defending, lacklustre midfield and a poor attack were to blame.

CARDIFF CITY 0 - 1 ROTHERHAM. Match Report.

City again played for only one half. The first half they were in total command. Matt Brazier was brilliant on the left and at 0 - 0 at half time a goal for the City was bound to come. Whatever they had in their tea at half time it changed them completely. The shape had gone and all the play was on the right which was not as good as the left. Rotherham snatched a winner with a breakaway goal. Just as they had promised to do.

Friday 28th August 1998

Matt Brazier signs for City on loan. 22 year old left sided midfielder / wing back has signed for cardiff on a one moth loan. Brazier will cover for Mike Ford. There is no news as to the long term plans for Brazier. Brazier made 7 appearances for Fulham last season and scored 1 goal.

Here is a view of Brazier from a Fulham website.
Matthew Brazier (Midfield) Signed from QPR late on last season, Matt is a left footed winger/wing back with great potential. Signed for just £65,000, he is proving to be a real bargain at todays prices. Born 2-7-76, height 5'8. A trainee at QPR before signing pro. One for the future. Fulham Independant rating 7-10.

Rotherham preview.
Cardiff go into tomorrow's game against Rotherham on a high after last weeks excellent win at Shrewsbury. Dai Thomas is looking forward to making his home debut, hopefully along side Kevin Nugent if his ankle injury is OK (see below). Rob Earnshaw is back in contention after missing last weeks game due to International call up. City's visitors tomorrow are currently top of the table with three wins out of three. Millers manager Ronnie Moore returns to Ninian hoping to continue the good run his team is enjoying. The Bluebirds will be hoping he goes away not so happy.

Teamtalk from Bily Ayre.
Injuries have been the main focus this week.Since the last match Kevin Nugent has been unable to train with a troubleseome ankle injury. On Thursday afternoon after his treatment had ended for the day he spent some time at Ninian Park with a local photographer as he is to be featured in the South Wales Echo in the near future re his interest in photography.
Gareth Stoker has spent the last week at Lilleshall rehabilitation centre on the comeback trail now he's been given the go ahead to step up.

Penney played his part in last Friday's excellent win at Shrewsbury but it was his last action for the Bluebirds. Best of luck to David in the future. No fee has been disclosed.

Andy Saville's transfer is expected to be completed today. Saville is moving to Scarborough for £20,000. Again good luck to Andy as well. Both he and Penney still live in Yorkshire and have decided to stay in the North of England rather than moving to S.Wales.

Earnshaw scores for Wales.
Congratulations to Rob Earnshaw who scored for Wales U18 yesterday, but it was not enough to stop Northern Ireland winning 2 - 1.

Saville transfer imminent.
The transfer of Andy Saville to Scarborough is set to go ahead. The clubs have a greed a fee of £20,000 and Saville has agreed personal terms. He is in Cardiff today having a final meeting with Frank Burrows.

Monday 24th August 1998

Cardiff failed today to sign Notts Forest winger Chris Allen. Allen is on the transfer list at Forest but refused to come to Ninian on a 3 month loan. He cost Forest £400,000 from Oxford.

Cardiff are about to launch a £740,000 youth initiative which Frank Burrows says is "The biggest revoloution in the youth set up at Ninian park ever".
Former Wales captain Colin Pascoe has joined the Bluebirds as youth team coach with Gavin Tait promoted to Youth Team Development Officer. Both the Football League and the Football Association have given their backing to the initiative which will see £185,000 per year over the next four years being ploughed into youth development. The Football laeague are providing grants of £138,000 per year with the Club's directors funding the rest. The aim is to keep young talent in Wales and not let talented youngsters like Ryan Geen and Craig Bellamy slip the net and sign for other teams. Pascoe will be responsible for coaching the youth team while Tait can now supervise the whole youth structure. Also joining is former City keeper George Wood who will take over coaching all levels of goalkeeping at the Club form the U12's up to the first team. YTS trainee Gavin Smith, who was released by the Club at the end of last season has also rejoined as a coach. Smith is taking coaching awards at the moment as City look to train their own coaches for the future.

The Cardiff City School of Excellence which currently runs one night a week will now be open three nights a week and throughout the holidays. This will give youngsters the chance to train with Cardiff City all the time and not look for other alternatives when the school is closed.

City will also be appointing an assistant to Physio Jimmy Goodfellow. Goodfellow at the moment looks after the first team but City feel it vital to have experienced Physio's available for all matches from the juniors up.

Cardiff City Yth 1 - 0 Torquay Yth.
City's youngsters started their new South West Counties Youth Football League season with a 1 - 0 win over Torquay. A first half goal by Ian Towse was enough to give the lads victory.

If they are not allowed to play then Rhyl will be City's opponents. Dates for those last two games to be arranged.

Cardiff will have a new shirt for the FAW games. It will be based on the shirt originally worn in the 1969/70 season. It will be blue the word Bluebirds across the left hand side. They will be sponsored by Steve Borley's company CMB Engineering.

SHREWSBURY 0 v 3 CARDIFF CITY. Match report.

Cardiff have pulled off a fantastic away win at Gay Meadow tonight. Goals from Jeff Eckhardt and new signing Dai Thomas in the first half was followed by a Kevin Nugent strike on 76 minutes. Just the tonic we needed.

Tom Ramasut, a left winger, who is 21 next week, has been signed today on non contract terms with a view to a permanent signing. Frank Burrows has given him one month to prove himself. Ramasut has been with the Bluebirds for the past few weeks and he scored against Cwmbran in the friendly on Wednesday night. Below is a brief history of Tom thanks to Bristol Rovers.

ramasut.jpg (4059 bytes) Tom Ramasut

Born - 30.08.77
Birth Place - Cardiff
Famed For - A good crosser of the ball, and prospects of being a future star.

Tom trained with Rovers as a youngster, but it was Norwich who he signed schoolboy forms with. He graduated through the ranks at Carrow Road and signed a one year contract with the Canaries in the summer of 1995. He arrived at Rovers in September 1996 and made his first team debut when coming on as a substitute, against Bury, at Gigg Lane the following month. Tom had already won international recognition for Wales at U-15, U-16 and U-18 level before his call up to the U-21 side last season. He made his U-21 debut against Holland in November 1996 and made a further appearance, against Belgium, before the end of the season. He continues to be selected for his country and looks certain to be someone to look out for in the near future.

Carl Dale is to recieve a benefit match from Cardiff City. Dale, who was with Bluebirds for 8 years is officially two years short of a testimonial but the Club are going to ggive him a benefit match at the end of the season because of his service to the Club. Dale hopes to field a side made up of '93 Championship players as well as the current squad. It is hoped the match could be against West Ham or other Premiership opposition.

Craig Middleton has shown his loyalty to Cardiff City. Middleton who signed a new 2 year contract in the summer is moving from his Leicestershire home to Penarth. Just the sort of passion to want to play for Cardiff that Frank Burrows is looking for. It's good to see a player leave his roots to come to Cardiff.

Cardiff are also looking at 18 year old Shane Small. Small has impressed in trial matches and we wait to see if Burrows wants to sign him.

Cardiff have agreed a £20000 fee for Andy Saville. Its now down to the player to agree personal terms with Scarborough. Other possible departures are  who is interesting Conference team Doncaster. Penney is in the squad for tonights game to cover for jason Fowler who has a slight injury. Lloyd Lislevand has left the club after struggling with fitness. City were interested in him but he has accepted an offer from Cyprus.

Preview of tonights game.
Cardiff travel to Gay Meadow tonight looking for their first win of the season. City will be boosted by the signing yesterday of Dai Thomas from Watford, he is expected to make his debut tonight. City will be without Rob Earnshaw is on duty for the Wales U18 squad. Jeff Eckhardt is pushing hard for a starting place after doing well after coming on as a substitue against Fulham earlier in the week.

DavidThomas.jpg (13887 bytes) Cardiff have today signed striker Dai Thomas from Watford. He has signed a four year deal reportedly worth over £100,000. Thomas is out of favour at Watford and has been on loan to Leyton Orient. Thomas aged 22, comes from Caerphilly.

Theres a report tonight that Andy Saville is on the verge of signing for
Scarborough.

Scarborough want Saville, who was born in Hull and lives in Yorkshire,
to play for them on Saturday.
Saville was City's leading scorer last season but his position is under
threat with the fitness of Kevin Nugent and the signing of John Williams
and Dai Thomas.

Todays Echo implies that David Penney's future at Ninian park is in doubt. Penney played most of the friendly game at Cwmbran last night but will not be included in the squad for the trip to Shrewsbury tomorrow. They say that he is likely to be on his way soon as he ties to resurrect his career.

CWMBRAN 1 - 4 CARDIFF CITY.

Cardiff triumphed in a friendy at Cwmbran last night. City were four goals up thanks to goals from triallist Shane Small, former Bristol Rovers player Tom Ramasut, Craig Middleton and a second half goal from Christian Roberts. Cwmbran pulled one back when Ian Mitchell scored direct from a free kick with Seamus Kelly will feel he should have saved. City were without Lloyd Lisevand who was injured and Rob Earnshaw, Nathan Cadette and Phil Owen who are with the Wales U18 squad. jarman played well, while 16 year old YTS trainee Ian Skelly had a comfortable game in defence.

The full team from last night. S. Kelly, Parnall, Derbyshire, Skelly, Jarman, Ramasut, Small, Penney, Roberts, Williams, Midlleton. Subs (all used) Loveless, P Kelly, harris, George, Radaman.

Wednesday 19th August 1998

Frank Burrows has blasted his teams performance last night.
Burrow's was quoted as saying the first half performance was
"The worst I've seen from any of my teams in 20 years of management. Some of these players owe me, the club and the supporters 45 minutes of work. The sooner they get their houses sorted out, the sooner they move down here and start to committ themselves instead of thinking they are doing the club a favour, the better. I left the comfort zone of West Ham to come back to Cardiff and drive myself insane. I'm finding it hard work at the moment, but I'll turn it around."

CARDIFF CITY 1 - 2 FULHAM. Match Report.
Fulham win 4 - 2 on agg.

Cardiff went out of the Worthington Cup tonight after another Jeckyl and Hide performance. Click on match report for my full views of the game tonight.

Worthington Cup preview. Cardiff go into tonights game one goal down but with an important away goal scored at Craven Cottage last week. City will need to improve on last Saturdays performance if they are to progress in this competition. Fulham will be no pushovers as they bring a team worth millions of pounds to Ninian Park. Andy Saville and Mike Ford will be missing through injury. If Frank Burrows is to continue with a 4-3-3 formation then either Robert Earnshaw or Christian Roberts will play alongside Kevin Nugent and John Williams up front. The defence will have to concentrate for 90 minutes tonight and not let Fulham into score as they let Perterborough in to find the net three times on Saturday. A 1-0 win will be enough to see City through on the away goals rule. (I think that applies after extra time but I'm not 10% sure). After the let down of Saturday City need to put in a credible performance tonight. Everyone needs a lift, the fans as well as the players.

Frank Burrows is continuing his search for two new players. He is hoping to sign a wide man and a striker. Frank is looking at young Premiership players that he could possibly sign on a three month loan deal. He would like have the players to be able to play against Shrewsbury on Friday.

Monday 17th August 1998

Andy Saville will miss the Worthington Cup game against Fulham tomorrow. Saville picked up an injury against Peterborough and is ruled out of tomorrows match. Mike Ford is still recovering from a hamstring problem and will not play either.

City have three players representing the Wales U18's in a tournament next weekend. First team members Robert Earnshaw and Nathan Cadette are joined by youth team member Phil Owen. The only downside is that Earnshaw will miss the first team trip to Shrewsbury on Friday.

Saturday 15th August 1998

CARDIFF CITY 1 - 3 PETERBOROUGH. Match Report.

City were given a lesson in finishing by Boro' in a dissapointing match at Ninian today. An eventless first half saw Cardiff leading 1 - 0 but the second half was a different matter as Boro put away three chances.

Mike Ford is hoping for a return after finding his hamstring injury is not as bad as first thought. Jeff Eckhardt is pushing hard for a place in the defence. Kevin Nugent is putting Andy Saville under pressure and Robert Earnshaw and Jason Fowler are back in the squad after missing the trip to Fulham.

HARTLEPOOL 1 - 1 CARDIFF CITY. Match Report.

A superb equaliser from Robert Earnshaw earned Cardiff a point at Victoria Park this afternoon. With both teams equalling the league draw record last season todays result is unsuprising. After a poor first half Cardiff came back well to share the points.

Friday 7th August 1998

Six out of the seven new signings are expected to make their league debuts tomorrow. Only reserve keeper Seamus Kelly will miss out. City will probably start with Mark Bonner, Mark Delaney, Mike Ford, Graham Mitchell, Richard Carpenter and John Williams in the starting line up. Caerau (ELY) 1 - 4 Cardiff XI

A City youth XI comfortably beat Caerau (Ely) last night. Over 300 watched the game in which City youngster Warren Givans scored a hattrick.

Nothing to report on at the moment. As you can see below City have played a couple of friendlies while I have been away. Nothing else is for certain. Frank Burrows is still hoping to make 1 or 2 more signings before kick off on Saturday. Names have been rumoured, Dai Thomas especially but nothing yet.

Tuesday 4th August 1998
