RESULT
Cardiff City 1 - 1 Notts County - Report

Disappointment at Ninian today where a bumper 6000 plus crowd saw City lose their 100% record but still gain a point. One major consolation was Swansea City losing away at Hull 7 - 4. These were the first goals Hull had scored this season and the first Swansea had conceded. Exeter City top the table after a 1 - 0 win at Doncaster. Exeter are 3 points clear of Cardiff but have played one game more. City travel to St James's Park to play Exeter next Saturday. Doncaster are at the foot of the table with 0 points from 4 games.

Cardiff's home game against Chester City has been rescheduled for Tuesday 16th September. Kick off 7:30pm.

Thursday 28th August 1997

Gilesports are City's new home kit sponsor. They have agreed a five figure one year deal with the Club. The new kit will be on display when City play Notts County at Ninian Park on Saturday. Gilesports are happy to be associated with Cardiff City and it should ensure the replica kits are on show at the 43 shops they have nationwide. 20 shops are in S.Wales. The Gilesports logo will be red on a white background.

CMB Engineering will again be the sponsors of the away kit. A deal has also been made with Baytrack Volvo to supply cars. Details are a bit vague on that at the moment.

Today there is a press conference at 1000 hrs to announce the new shirt sponsors. Details when they are available.

Early team news for Saturdays home game v Notts County is that Chris Greenacre, last weeks debut goalscorer, is available after Manchester City did not want him cup tied at Southend. Shame since Man City were knocked out of the CC Cup in the first round by Blackpool. Jeff Eckhardt has now served his 4 match suspension and is available for selection.

Southend Utd 3 - 1 Cardiff City - Report.

City are out of the Coca Cola Cup. A fine performance could not see the Bluebirds come back from two goals conceded within 2 minutes early in the first half.

Saturday 23rd August 1997

RESULT
Mansfield Town 1 - 2 Cardiff City - Report.

Cardiff's second league game of the season ended with 3 points to the Bluebirds. Scott Partridge scored his first ever goal for the club and Chris Greenacre scored on his debut.

Thursday 21st August 1997

Cardiff have signed 23 year old for former Eire U21 International Wayne O'Sullivan. The player has signed for Cardiff in a two year deal. A package in the region of £75000 has been agreed with Swindon. The player has agreed personal terms and providing todays medical is OK he is eligable to play immediately.

The club has not ruled out another signing before tomorrows deadline, which would allow new signings to play this Saturday and next Tuesday in the cup.

Early team news for Saturdays game at Mansfield has good and bad news. Scott Young is doubtful after getting injured with the Welsh squad. The good news is that David Penney is fit. Dale and Nugent are obvious casualties and Jeff Eckhardt still has two games to run on his suspension.

Tuesday 19th August 1997

FRIENDLY RESULT
Bristol City 3 - 1 City

City play a friendly away at Bristol City today. This is a reserve team match but City will play David Penney to check on his match fitness, with Gareth Stoker and Kevin Lloyd also playing.

Scott Young is out of the Wales U21 match in Istanbul tonight. He has picked up an injury and will not play. Hopefully he will be able to return for ther Bluebirds on Saturday.

Monday 18th August 1997

This week has started off with the loan signing of Manchester City striker Chris Greenacre. The 20 year old played four times for Man City last season. Greenacre comes in due to the injuries to Carl dale and Kevin Nugent.

Thursday 14th August 1997

Suturdays home game v Chester City has been postponed. Bobby Gould has used his right to cancel the game due to the three Cardiff players, Lee Jarman, Scott Young and Lee Phillips, being required to be fully fit for International duty next week. The Welsh squad has a number of injury worries and Gould wants no more risks. The U21 team is lying secong in their group and are in with a good chance of progressing further. This does however give City more time to find new players and get some of the ailing squad fit again. The next match is now on Saturday 23rd August away at Mansfield. No date has been set for the rearranged tie with Chester.

Wednesday 13th August 1997

Jimmy Rollo has been released from hospital after he was knocked out scoring City's equaliser last night. An FA directive says that all players who receive such head injuries must stop playing for a couple of weeks. Kevin Nugent is doubtful after getting a badly bruised ankle. Carl Dale is having a small operation on his damaged ankle on Thursday.

The search must now intensify for one or two attackers. The only recognised front man in the squad is Steve White. Hibbitt is hoping to get a couple of players into the squad in time to play against Chester on Saturday.

Tuesday 12th August 1997

RESULT
Cardiff City 1 - 1 Southend Utd. - Report.

As in last Saturdays victory at Orient the Cardiff goalscorer tonight was carried off on a stretcher. Jimmy Rollo bravely headed in City's equaliser deep into injury time after only being on the pitch for 2 minutes. Jimmy missed the ball hitting the back of the net as he was left unconscious on the ground. Kevin Nugent shared his ambulance ride to hospital after an ankle injury.

Coca Cola Cup action at Ninian Park tonight. Admission costs for tonights game are the same as the usual league prices. £8 for the Bob Bank / Canton Stand and Family Enclosure (£4 for juniors). The Grandstand is £10 and £12. (£6 and £7 for juniors).

Monday 11th August 1997

Cardiff City hope to unveil a major new sponsorship later this week. Details as they come in.

Carl Dale is having further X-rays to determine the damage done to his ankle again more news as it comes in.

Early team news ahead of tomorrow nights CC Cup match with Southend. Dale is obviously out, Mark Harris and David Penney are doubtful and Jeff Eckhardt is serving the 2nd match of his 4 match suspension. Steve White and Kevin Nugent will start upfront. Kenny Hibbitt is looking for a loan striker to cover Dale but there will be no new faces for tomorrows game.

Sunday 10th August 1997

Carl Dale's ankle injury looks to be serious. The player could be out of action for a long time. The search has already started for a replacement striker with a loan deal looking most likely.

Leyton Orient 0 - 1 Cardiff City - Report

A prefect start to the new campaign. Carl Dale scored the winner in the second half after a Craig Middleton cross was put away from 10 yds. There is an injury scare over Dale who was taken off late in the game on a stretcher

The big kick off is today. Cardiff are taking a full 19 man squad to Brisbane Road and the team will be announced later.

Thursday 7th August 1997

Chris Beech, the 21 year old wing-back who has been on trial with Cardiff, signed yesterday for the club. The player has been with Manchester City for the past 5 seasons but has impressed Kenny Hibbitt during his trial spell. He joins Hallworth, Penney, Harris, Carss and Nugent who have all joined the club during the summer. Another addition to the squad is John Cross. He was signed last summer but missed the season due to injury. John is now fit and has been playing well in the pre season games.
