Phew. The win that we all wanted. A Kevin Nugent header on 75 mins has pushed City 3 places up the table and 4 points clear of the relegation zone. Today was a massive win. No doubt about it. City battled all game in atrocious conditions. A high wind, freezing rain and generally bloody awful weather resulted in a game full of exitement. Best chance of the first half fell to Schwinkendorf who ran through the Reading defence and saw his cannonball shot rebound off the post. Saddest moment of the half was the horrific injury to Casper the Reading player who lost out in a challenge with Carpenter. Chippy was booked for his tackle but Casper was stretchered off after several minutes with what I understand to be a leg broken in two places. Second half City produced excellent pressure. Josh Low and Jason Fowler directed and Schwinke, Humphreys and Nugent tried to shoot the bullets. The Reading keeper pulled off a string of excellent saves, none better than a 74th minute save from Fowler. Carpenter took the resulting corner and SuperKev headed down through the crowd and under the keeper to give City a much needed victory. Rob Earnshaw made an appearance as a 90th minute sub. Next to strugglers Cambridge. 3 points from that game and we could be on the turn. Excellent result today, well worth the cold and rain and full value for money. |
