faerber.jpg (10780 bytes)Dutch wing back Winstone Faerber is expected to sign for City this week. Faerber has impressed Frank Burrows while he's been with the squad and Biurrows has confirmed he is trying to tie up the deal at the moment. The full squad were back at Ninian Park this morning after the week long trip to Scotland. Mike Ford has recovered from the injury that kept him in Wales and he is expected to feature in tomorrow evenings friendly at Bath City (Twerton Park, 7:45pm).

Faerber will be City's fifth summer signing after Willie Boland, Jamie Hughes, Matt Brazier and Russell Perrett. Frank is now looking hard for a defender after the transer of Paul Mardon fell through when the player siustained serious injury in what would have been his last match for W.B.A. last week. While a prolific striker would be an assett to the team I get the impression that Frank will be happy with a combination of Kevin Nugent, Jason Bowen and Dai Thomas as his strike force with John Williams, Rob Earnshaw, Chris Roberts and Jamie Hughes as back up.

City Move to Sign Faerber

DUTCHMAN Winston Faerber, whose Samba-style skills have brought a new attacking dimension to Cardiff City’s right flank, will this week become Frank Burrows’ fifth signing of the close season.  And Bluebirds’ boss Burrows said today: “We haven’t finished strengthening our squad - I’m still working towards bringing in more players to increase competition for places.”

City are trailing a central defender after missing out on West Brom’s Welsh international Paul Mardon, who was seriously injured before he could complete the move to Ninian Park, and goalkeeper Khadim Faye could be flying in.

It had seemed Burrows’ interest in Senegal international Faye, currently with Portuguese club Felgueiras, had cooled, but he is set to fly in for a trial.

The two clubs have agreed a £50,000 fee and Burrows remains keen on having three top-line goal-keepers at Ninian Park. The arrival of Slovenian international Bosko Boskovic ended abruptly after he had played in a 6-1 defeat against Dunfermline, and German soccer bosses ordered him back to his club, Freiburg.

One of Burrows’ first tasks this week, though, will be to complete the signing of Faerber from Den Haag in Holland.

The tricky 28-year-old right wing back from Surinam, the former Dutch Guiana which shares a border with Brazil, has spent most of his career with Den Haag.

“I want a change - and I’d love to play for Cardiff City,” said Faerber, who played three matches during the week-long tour to Scotland and did enough to impress Burrows.

“He has good technique, he’s a gutsy, experienced player and he wants to play for Cardiff City,” said Burrows, “I’m aiming to sign him this week.”

The Bluebirds arrived back from their Scottish tour late Saturday, and were back in training this morning preparing for tomorrow night’s match against Bath City.
