humphrey.jpg (21809 bytes) As revealed on this websites Messageboard yesterday by City Chairman Steve Borley, the Bluebirds have signed Richie Humphreys on loan from Premiership Sheff Wed. City have been searching for a goalscorer for months and today we have finally signed one. Richie is to come in as cover for the injured Kevin Nugent and has signed for a one month period. Its thought the once £4m rated player could be picked up for as little as £200,000. Humphreys goes straight into the City team to face Colchester at Layer Rd on Tuesday. City will be looking to emulate Brentford who went to Essex last Friday and scored 3 times without reply.

OWLS STRIKER Richie Humphreys has joined Second Division Cardiff City on a month's loan.

The 21-year-old will move to the Welsh club in time to make his debut in the league game against Colchester United on Tuesday night.

Humphreys has been frozen out of the picture at Hillsborough since the arrival of Gilles De Bilde and Gerald Sibon in the summer. Last season he found himself knocked down the pecking order when Richard Cresswell arrived from York City.

Seldom has a young player made such an impact though, as Humphreys did at the start of the 96/97 season. A rocket volley on his home debut against Aston Villa, followed by a goal at Leeds in the next game and a sensational 50-yard run and chip against Leicester City set the nation talking about Wednesday's teenage discovery, sadly he has had to take a back seat, but is hoping he can capture some good form that will put him back in Danny Wilson's first team plans.

PROFILE
For Ritchie coming to Wednesday may have proved a dilemma as he was a boyhood Sheffield United fan but his performances have proved to The Owls fans just which side his heart is on.

Newspaper speculation even linked him with a £4m move to Leeds United, though this was denied by the Elland Road outfit.

Since then however Ritchie has seen the flip side of the coin as he has struggled to reignite his early form and with Richard Cresswell's arrival at the club has fallen even further down the pecking order. Humphreys still has to prove his early promise will blossom into a lengthy Premiership career.
