Todays Echo suggests we are looking at Paddy
Connolly, a 29 year old striker currently with Scottish Premier side St Johnstone.Connolly started his career with Dundee Utd and scored 40 goals in 134 games. He moved to Airdrie for £150,000 and then onto St Johnstone for £300,000. He has been out of favour at St Johnstone after scoring twice in 15 games. He has been on loan at Greenock Morton where he has scored 5 goals in 5 games this season. He was called back to St Johnstone earlier this month when a deal could not be reached for a permanent move. The Echo suggests he could cost the Bluebirds £100,000. Connolly was an U21 international for Scotland and played in Europe for Dundee Utd. The following two reports are from different St Johnstone websites. 1. After three failed attempts by Sturrock The Lugged One to sign him, Paddy finally joined Saints from Airdrie for £300,000 in a blaze of tabloid hype towards the end of season 97/98. Unfortunately things haven't exactly gone swimmingly since then, but he does a cracking Gavin Price impression by never appearing on the team sheet, leading to such nicknames as "Paddy Who" and "Paddy Thingy". The Paddster was hailed as a star of the future during his days at Scumdee United however and he was also impressive enough at Airdrie to suggest that he might come good with a little perceverence. Scored only two goals in 98/99, one against Stranraer in the League Cup and the other against Motherwell in the SPL. 2. Paddy Connolly is a quick and skillful striker. Signed for 300,000 he is the most expensive player at the club and is another former Dundee Utd star, who Sturrock coached while at Utd. Has had injury problems which have limited his appearances, but has looked lively when he has played. Scored his first goal v Stranraer. The Echo say that Frank Burrows was unavailable for comment on this news so for the moment lets just take it as a rumour. |
