Feuer salutes the Rushden fans after
keeping a clean sheet against Leeds Utd

6'6 keeper Ian Feuer is having a trial at Ninian Park. Feuer pronounced FOY-er has played for several britich clubs inc West Ham, Peterborough, Luton (who paid £580,000 for him) and Rushden (see picture above).

Feuer has been released by the Colorado Rapids at the end of their season. They have not offered him a contract for next season making him available.

Ian Feuer is the brother in law of Hollywood actor Mickey Rourke and his dad was a member of Elvis' band. Thanks to the wonders of the Internet I have found the following information on the 28 year old.

Recent news from Colorado Rapids.
DENVER (Monday, November 29, 1999) - The Colorado Rapids today announced that they will not pick up the option year on the contract of goalkeeper Ian Feuer, meaning Feuer will not return to the Rapids in 2000.

Feuer (pronounced FOY-er), who joined Colorado from the New England Revolution in a February 24 trade, took over as the Rapids' starting goalkeeper for the final 19 games of the 1999 regular season. With Feuer in goal, Colorado went 10-9 over the last 19 games, before being the victims of a two-game sweep at the hands of the Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS Western Conference Semifinals.

To his credit, his record was also a reflection of the Rapids' offensive struggles, as he did record a team-record eight shutouts despite playing just more than half the season. Feuer took over as the Rapids' first-choice keeper following the departure of Marcus Hahnemann to Fulham F.C. of the English First Division.

The Rapids were 10-3 when Feuer played his first game on July 4, a 3-0 loss to the Columbus Crew in front of 51,025 at Mile High Stadium. Colorado finished the season 20-12, its best-ever regular-season record. Colorado now has one goalkeeper remaining on its roster, in the form of Russell Payne, who played only 14 minutes in 1999.

1998 SEASON
A bright spot on a New England side that struggled through an inconsistent season, Feuer finished the season 8-15 with a 2.12 goals against average. One of the most impressive stats in MLS in 1998 saw Feuer save 5 of 6 penalty kicks taken against him.

PRO OUTDOOR CAREER
Joined the Rapids in San Diego following an eventful off-season loan spell to English non-league club Rushden & Diamonds. Feuer captured the English sporting spotlight on January 2 when he turned in a blinding performance as his team shocked Premier League power Leeds United with a 0-0 draw at Nene Park in the F.A. Cup. Rushden & Diamonds plays a full four divisions below the Premier League, thus Feuer’s sparkling performance, in which he was called upon to make several saves of the eye-catching variety, gained him national notoriety in England.

While Leeds would go on to knock off Feuer and his upstart side, 3-1, in the replay at Leeds’ Elland Road, Feuer had re-introduced himself to the country in which he had toiled for several years. His loan spell at Rushden & Diamonds had also re-united him with a former manager at Luton Town. Terry Westley, who was Feuer’s skipper at Luton for three months, now serves as the assistant manager for the non-league side.

Feuer began his professional career with F.C. Brugge in Belgium after graduating from High School. Feuer stayed with the Belgian side through 1993, when he returned to the U.S. to play the 1993 season with the Los Angeles Salsa of the American Professional Soccer League.   In April 1994 Feuer’s contract was purchased by West Ham United of England’s top flight for 80,000 British pounds (roughly $135,000). However, first-team minutes were not to be found, as West Ham’s goalkeeping chores were in the able hands of stalwart Ludo Miklosko. Despite gaining valuable experience playing with West Ham’s reserve team, Feuer went on loan to Peterborough, where he played 16 league matches during the 1994-95 season.

The following season, Feuer again went out on loan, this time joining Luton Town on a three-month loan in September 1995. After enjoying much success in 14 league matches for Luton, the club purchased his contract outright in December for 600,000 British Pounds (roughly $1.02 million). Feuer would experience a great run at Luton, in fact being named "Fans’ Player of the Year" for the 1995-96 season. His success at Luton would continue until August 1997, when he tore a muscle in his shoulder in a match against Southend. The injury brought to a halt his impressive streak of 90 consecutive league appearances. Sidelined by injury, Feuer was forced to watch as England Under-21 International goalkeeper Kelvin Davis assumed goalkeeping duties and played well enough that when Feuer returned to fitness, he would be sold to the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer in March of 1998.

U.S. NATIONAL TEAM EXPERIENCE
Made his U.S. National Team debut on March 18, 1992 in a 3-1 loss to Morocco. Feuer came on as a substitute, giving up one goal in 19 minutes. While that was his lone appearance, Feuer was in the U.S. National Team pool for an August 1995 match against Sweden in Sweden. With Rapids coach Glenn "Mooch" Myernick serving as the assistant to then-coach Steve Sampson, Feuer broke his wrist in practice within the first two days that the team had assembled, and was unable to play in the game.
