The NOTW claim a World Exclusive that City will sign Tony Vaughan during the next week for £450,000. (I'll have to remember that World Exclusive - sounds good) Thus smashing the clubs previous transfer record. Godfrey Ingram was previously the most expensive player when he signed from San Jose for £180,000 in 1982. The transfer was a farce though when he was sold back to San Jose for the same amount a few weeks later.

The paper alledges that Frank Burrows and Joe Royle have been in discussion all week. All parties seem happy and Frank Burrows only has to get clearance from his Chairman. If City sign him before Thursday then his loan period will be cancelled thus allowing the club to still loan up to 5 more players this season.

Vaughan went to Man City from Ipswich for £1.35m. He is without doubt a quality defender but there is a question mark over his distribution. That is something that can be worked on. I get the impression from the fans that they would rather see £450K spent on a striker. We already have Eckhardt, Schwinkendorf, Ford, Young and Perrett in central defence do we need another defender instead of a striker.

If the club can afford Vaughan and a new striker (Humphreys perhaps) then all well and good.

While all this is going on we must not forget we are teetering on the edge of the relegation zone. Everyone has put there faith in Frank to sort it out and we are still struggling. Whatever decisions are made we must ensure we strat to get some decent results in the league. Starting off at Burlnely next Saturday. Lets hope they are suffering from an FA Cup hangover after their fantastic win at Derby yesterday. More crucially will be the next two games, Reading at home on Sun 26th (12:15pm) and Cambridge away on Tues 28th (3:00pm) both sides at the wrong end of the table like us and they are sides that we must pick up points from.
