We murdered them 2 - 1. It should have been at least 3 - 0 at half time and 6 - 0 by the end. Some things never change though, the obligatory goal was given away on 93 mins.

But thats the end of the negative comment. Quite simply we blew them away. Chesterfield were poor and we showed signs of such improvement.

The star of the night was Christian Roberts. Jason Bowen was given the man of the match as award for his two goals but Chris emerged the hero. Any sane man will see that Kevin Nugent will have to wait his turn to get back into this team, feeling is that Frank will reinstate him automatically when he is fit. Roberts and Bowen injected so much pace it was frightening. In defence we were solid defending (a bit ropey in moving the ball from defence, esp Tony Vaughan, he is the most cool defender and extremely talented but he does give the ball away). So at the back OK, up front OK, in the middle not quite right. Brazier is starting to return to form, Danny Hill has been a revelation and Carpenter was solid again tonight. I think they need some new ideas though, can't quite put my finger on it but maybe they were lacking the final spark that could have seen us putting 6 past this team.

As I said though no negative thoughts, Bowen scored two crackers, first a 25 yard shot after a Hill flick on and second a header, just to compliment his new hair cut. Tony Vaughan launched a long cross that was 2 yards too hard for Chris Roberts. No one told Chris he had no right to go for it, he leaped, lurched and flung himself at the ball and knocked it into the path of the oncoming Bowen who made no mistake with his header.

Chris was man enough to come back from missing a penalty. Andy Legg was man handled to the groud just seconds after Matt Brazier was tumbled. Brazier was awared a free kick when it was obvious from where I was sitting it should have been a penalty. The following move saw Legg grounded and the referee said carry on, the linesman though overturned the descision and City were awarded a fair penalty. The bad move was allowing Chris to take it. He was too wound up and concentrated on playing well. He put his shot at a good height for the keeper and it was duly saved.

Overall a great result, well desevered and a reminder to the fans that we can move out of any difficulty imposed.
