Richard Carpenter scored the winner for City when he slotted the ball home on 11 minutes after a cracking build up involving Perrett, Low and Dai Thomas. Newtown came back during the first half but were not able to score. City themselves missed chances in tthe second half with Brazier and Carpenter going closest.
After watching the TV highlights tonights match mirrors the other games we've played this season. Plenty of pretty football but lacking a cutting edge, and still dodgy defending. The game could easily have finished 4 all. Newtown were creating good chances but failed to force Seamus into a save. Withington in the Newtown goal (the dodgiest keeper I've ever seen at Ninian) made some good saves tonight from Dai Thomas, John Cornforth and Richard Carpenter. Josh Low made a solid enough debut, he was part of the build up for Carpenters goal and had a couple of efforts himself. In my opinion the most talented player on the pitch was the Newtown right winger Wickham. While he was guilty of missing Newtowns best two chances he showed plenty of good touches and found plenty of space. |
