City's
first goal scorer Rob Earnshaw admitted that it was the competition for places that
inspired him to put in his best performce since returning from injury. "It was great to get a goal in such a big game." He told the Western Mail. Earnie knew that Campbell was on the bench and was fit again. "I must admit the sight of Andy on the bench was a bit of an incentive. He's a good player and the important thing for the team is that he's fit again." Earnie will keep his place for the return leg when Cardiff City play their biggest game at Ninian Park for decades. Full article from the Western Mail. Graham Kavanagh praised the Cardiff fans for their support "Our supporters were fantastic - they didn't stop cheering my name." Kavanagh was given a very hostile reception and was jeered everytime he touched the ball. Whenever he went to take a corner the Stoke fans stod and verbally abused him. One Stoke fan has written "I think that our lot spent too much time trying to boo Kav and not lifting the Stoke team." Kavanagh said "I was expecting a hostile reception; it happened last time I played at the Britannia Stadium. There were also a few quotes in the local paper which I didn't actually make and that didn't help things. During the game I didn't have my head down in fear or worry, but it's difficult to block everything out. I must admit it was a bit intimidating when I went to take the corners. I was wary of somebody coming on to the pitch." |
