Scotland
manager Bertie Vogts was watching at the Britannia Stadium yesterday and must have been
impressed with the performance of Neil Alexander. The City fans sang "Scotlands,
Scotlands No.1" unaware that Vogt's was at the ground. Alexander told the Western Mail "I didn't know Berti Vogts was watching until after the game when George Wood congratulated me on my performance." Alexander in my opinion was man of the match with secure handling and some great diving saves. The 24 year old former U 21 international was a major factor in City coming away from Stoke with a win and he has had a solid if not spectacular season and a Scottish call up would be fair reward. He is definately a future Scotland international. Alexander went on to say "It's lovely if he was there to watch me and hopefully he was impressed with what he saw. It was pleasing to make one or two good saves, particularly when I managed to hold on to the ball as the surface started to slippery. "Being part of Scotland's under-21 squad has given me a taste for international football and my aim now is to get called into the full squad. "Whether I'll be involved in the European Championship qualifiers I'm not sure, but it would be great if that happened. It's a dream to play for your country and I would be fulfilling a boyhood ambition." |
