Lennie Lawrence has signed Gary Croft, a wing back on loan from Premiership Ipswich Town.

The player and his manager George Burley were quoted this morning saying

"I'm really up for a move to Cardiff City. Lennie Lawrence watched me play for Ipswich Town Reserves at Derby County yesterday and he spoke to manager George Burley afterwards. "I'm expecting a call from one of them now to discuss the move. But the thought of helping Cardiff City into the play-offs really appeals to me. Cardiff are a good club, a progressive club and I would have no hesitation in joining them."

Ipswich manager Burley confirmed that Cardiff City have approached him for Croft and said:

"Everything is agreed between the clubs, Gary needs regular games and I am happy for him to join Cardiff. He is a good player who will do a good job for them and now it's just down  to Gary agreeing to the move."

This afternoon the club via the official website has confirmed that Croft has signed on loan until the end of the season.

Gary Croft 28, started his career at Grimsby and started 139 league for the Mariners. He then made a £m+ move to Blackburn Rovers making 33 Premier League appearances. He has made 20 first team league starts for Ipswich including the winning play off final at wembley in May 2000 when Ipswich beat Barnsley to get promoted to the Premiership. Ipswich had paid Blackburn over £1/2m pounds for him.

This season he has been in the Ipswich reserve side and has been on loan at Wigan. He was booked in the 4 - 0 win by Wigan over Cardiff in the game that spelt the end of Alan Cork's reign as manager of the Bluebirds.

He is a wing back that can pay on the right or the left.
