Weston has received a call up from Mark Hughes to join the Wales squad ahead of Wednesday
night's game against the Czech Republic at the Millennium Stadium. Weston ended his U21 career after breaking a curfew in Armenia. He was omitted from the squads for the remaining games by Jimmy Shoulder. But now Mark Hughes has given the young defender a chance for the full squad. Wales have been affected greatly by players pulling out. 10 so far from the original 26 have withdrawn - Ryan Giggs, Gary Speed, Darren Barnard, Andy Johnson, Robert Earnshaw, Iwan Roberts, Craig Bellamy, Mark Crossley, Kit Symons and Mark Pembridge. That has left 16 players P Jones (Southampton), Ward (Nottm For), Coyne (Grimsby), Delaney (Villa), Jenkins (Huddersfield), Melville (Fulham), Page (Sheff Utd), Gabbidon (Cardiff), J Robinson (Charlton), Koumas (Tranmere), Davies (Spurs), C Robinson (Wolves), Savage (Leicester), Blake (Wolves), Taylor (Burnley), Hartson (Celtic). Weston and Coventry City's Paul Trollope are numbers 17 and 18 and Wales hope to add two more players. The likeliehood of Daniel Gabbidon making his debut as some point is now much greater and congratulations to Rhys for getting the call from Mark Hughes. |
