Early morrning rumours that Andy Campbell from Middlesbrough is to be the new striker signing have been confirmed by City's official website. 22 year old Campbell is a quick striker who was the youngest ever Premiership player when he made his Middlesbrough debut in 1996 aged just 16.

Campbell has had limited first team oportunities this season but did come off the bench to score against Manchester United last month as Boro' knocked the Manc's out of the FA Cup.

Campbells last appearance was only 3 weeks ago when he played 45 mins against Charlton in a goalless draw at the Riverside.

Campbell has had a couple of loan moves before, he has played at both Sheff Utd and Bolton.

He joined Middlesbrough as a trainee and was close to a £1m move to Crystal Palace last summer but injury stopped the move going ahead.

Campbell is quick and strong and is expected to complete his signing later today. He is then expected to go straight into the squad for City's massive game at Huddersfield tomorrow night.

He has had International expecrience with England U21's and England Youth and at only 22 now is still a good young prospect.

Its thought the deal is for a month with the possibility of making it a loan until the end of ther season. The Nationwide League website claim that Sam Hammam has agreed to fund the £6,000 a week need to play Campbell until the end of the season if necessary. With Earnie and Gavin Gordon both still injured Campbell's arrival could be just the tonic need to push ahead now with a push for the play offs.

It has been reported that Lawrence was trying to bring in Martin Pringle from Charlton but its Andy Campbell who becomes Lennie Lawrence's first signing.

Welcome to Cardiff City.
