Daniel Gabbidon has extended his City contract in a deal that sees him commit himself to Ninian Park until 2006.

Gabbidon told the Echo

"I'm staying with Cardiff City and by the time my new contract comes to an end I would hope we'll be in the Premiership or certainly pushing strongly towards that."

Sam Hammam has always said that Gabbidon was one of the best players at Ninian Park and one to watch for the future and this season he's gone a long way towards proving it. Gabbidon won his first Welsh cap last month and is unfortunate to be out injured as the play offs are approaching.

"I'm gutted to be possibly missing two games of this importance I haven't completely given up yet, but it's not looking good for Sunday. But we have a good squad and with somebody like Crofty stepping in for me I won't really be missed.

"I will be asking the gaffer if I can travel with the squad even if I can't play. I don't want to miss out. It will be a blow if I can't play, but we have a cracking squad and they can do the job needed. Hopefully, I'll be willing them on from the dug-out".

Gabbidon has attracted the interest of several Premiership clubs and it's good to hear is committed to staying in Wales.
