At times it was not nice and it was not pretty but when you walk away with 3 points you don't really care.

Maybe that's a bit harsh when Cambridge were reduced to making up the numbers for most of the match.

City moved up a place in the table and the way other results panned out means that City are now only 3 points from 3rd spot and only 9 from second place.

The Bluebirds were led by Graham Kavanagh who has moved into the leading scorer position with 15 now for the season. Its his biggest ever haul and the biggest haul for a City midfielder for many a year.

Kav volleyed in on 36 mins to open the account, Peter Thorne headed down and Kav reacted to fire home from 12 yards. His second came from the spot after Layton Maxwell, a sub for Mark Bonner, was felled in the box by Svetlund Angus.

Walking away from the game I struggled to think of one save that Alexander had to make. Looking at the stats now he did not have to. Cambridge mustered up 6 attempts with none of them, on target.

City have now gone four games at home with four wins and no goals against. Stoke 2 - 0, Swindon 3 - 0, Bury 1 - 0 and today Cambridge 2 - 0 have produced a fine run of home form.

In fact, on current form over the last 8 games City are in third place in the table
