Having got off to a winning start under Lawrence’s guidance
and with Earnie, Disco Des Hamilton and Gavin Gordon still injured, Lennie
has already stated that he expects to field an unchanged team at Ninian Park
for this Saturday’s game against bottom of the table Cambridge United.
That would be: Spencer Prior was rested from the reserves game at Wycombe
to ensure he is fit (if not match fit) and available for the weekend.
Although City failed to win more than two successive
league games this season and only won two matches in succession on 4
occasions, a factor which contributed towards the demise of Alan Cork, there
are signs that The Bluebirds are starting to perform at home. Cardiff have won their last 3 games at Ninian Park and not
conceded a goal doing it too having beaten Stoke 2-0, Swindon 3-0 and Bury
1-0. The last time City won 3 successive home league games was April 2001 in
Division 3, they were promoted shortly afterwards. Can we have the same
please??? Cambridge meanwhile visit Ninian Park with the worst away
record in the entire football league, not just Division Two. It reads: They are stranded at the bottom of Division Three, 9
points and a vastly inferior goal difference away from safety with 13 games
left. Their support have just about given up hope of survival and are
starting to discuss Division Three places to visit next term. Their recent form is poor, just 1 win and 6 points in
their last 9 games although they have been fighting for results away. A 5-0
thumping at Stoke a fortnight ago is poor but they drew at Bury and QPR and
lost in the last minute at Brighton in other recent away matches.
Cambridge also seem to be a team who perform well or get
luck against City with games never short of drama. The Bluebirds have not
beaten Cambridge in their last 7 league visits losing 2 of those games 4-0
and 7-2! Their have been other dramatic games between the teams in recent
times including the Barry Knight inspired refereeing defeat at Ninian and
City’s heroic 8 man 0-0 draw at the Abbey Stadium. So if City had any thoughts of complacency and an easy 3
points, they can think again. Last September, fans had thoughts of possibly
going top of the league when they visited Cambridge, then bottom of Division
Two. They lost 2-1 with one of their worst displays of the season.
Get it right this time Bluebirds! |
