Alan Smith has failed in his appeal to have his red card ruling overturned.

Smith was sent off for violent conduct against Andy Legg and despite Legg standing up for Smith the red card stands.

Smith receives a 4 match ban. He was also given a one match ban for receiving a 5th yellow card at Newcastle last Saturday. Smith will therefore miss 5 games and is certain to miss out on the chance to play for England as suspended players are usually not considered.
