Cardiff City progressed to the FAW Premier Cup Final with a penalties victory over Wrexham at the Racecourse. Gethin Jones fired City into a 4th minute lead and despite much second half Wrexham pressure it stayed that way until the 86th minute when Lee Trundle turned Spencer Prior inside out and fired home to equalise and send the game into extra time. Wrexham still looked strong but Martyn Giles missed the best chance as City kept the Robins at bay through extra time and the game went to penalties. Paul Brayson, Man of the match James Collins, Kevin Evans and Layton Maxwell all scored for Cardiff City. Major players Lee Trundle and Alex's son Darren Fergusson both missed for Wrexham. Bring on Swansea or Barry. Other snippets. Josh Low went off in the first half with a hamstring problem. David Hughes played well and was brought off after 60 mins (Lennie thinking of Oldham maybe). James Collins proved he is a defender with a very passionate display and Layton Maxwell again played well in midfield. Well done CCFC. |
