City end the 2001 / 2002 season with a cup final. It may not be the Millennium Stadium
play off final that we all wanted but it's a final nonetheless. Swansea City visit Ninian Park to compete for the £100,000 FAW Premier Cup. The game is on Monday May 13th with a 6:55pm kick off. Neither team have won the competition before and there is also pride to play for. Swansea are fierce rivals and there will be plenty of banter going on with the winner having the most to shout about. Sam Hammam has held true a promise he made to Swansea fans. Sam met with the Jacks early on in his days as City chief and said if ever they played us again he would fund their travel to Ninian Park, good to his word Sam has covered the cost of some 20 coaches bringing over 1,000 Swans to Ninian Park for the match. The game is all ticket for all fans. You can book online at www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk or you can call the ticket office on 0845 345 1400. Tickets cost from £6 - £12 for adults and £4 - £10 for concessions with discounts available for season ticket holders and members. No tickets will be sold on the day and there will be no payment at the turnstiles. The match will be covered live by BBC Wales televison. Cardiff City will be without Neil Alexander, the City No.1 will be heading for Korea with the Scotland squad. Alexander is set to win his first full international cap on the trip to the far east. Rob Earnshaw is also on international duty. Earnie is set for his first full Wales cap when we entertain Germany at the Millennium Stadium on Tuesday. Daniel Gabbidon is still injured, he therefore misses the FAW final and the Wales game. Mark Walton will be in goal for City, Stephen Bywater has returned to West Ham after his loan spell at City but there is talk he may be about to sign for City on a permanent basis. Bywater was named yesterday in England's U21 squad for the up coming U21 championships. City expect to name a strong first team side with Andy Legg returning from injury and Andy Campbell starting upfront in place of Earnie. Leon Jeanne is also expected to be named in the squad. City expected squad to be M Walton (gk), R Weston, A Legg, S Prior, G Kavanagh (capt), L Fortune-West, J Bowen, W Boland, M Bonner, L Maxwell, P Thorne, L Jeanne, P Brayson, M Simpkins, J Collins, L Kendall (gk). City's season ends after Monday's game. Pre season matches begin in mid July with the new season kicking off on Saturday August 10th. |
