Peter Thorne has scored 5 goals in his last 6 games. City are now 4th in the table. Lennie has gone 11 games unbeaten picking up 27 points from 33. We are virtually assured of a play off place when only 7 weeks ago we were resigned to mid table. So why does it feel like we lost everything tonight? The penalty decision from the City end looked very harsh. No fans or players appealed for it, the referee gave Huddersfield an early Christmas present and with it the belief they could score again which they did only 3 minutes later. Peter Thorne touched in Leo FW's effort in the first half and then he scored a superb goal firing across Margetson in the 66th minute to send Cardiff fans delirious. On the negative side an injury to Daniel Gabbidon will be causing concern. A win would have placed City only three points behind second place with two games to go. Probably still too tall an order but the hope was there. The draw makes automatic promotion a mathematical improbability but it also virtually assures City of a play off place. 7 weeks ago when Alan Cork left the club every single City fan would have taken a play off place. Well we should be just about safe for one of those so we must tonight's results behind us and focus on the days ahead. There was great support from City fans and that will be important as we look to get the play off place confirmed on Saturday and then we will be playing at Tranmere to establish the finishing position and the play off opponents.
Lennie Lawrence was furious with the penalty
decision. See the news story below. |
