Sam Hammam has vowed to give up his walkabouts. Sam
for years has wandered around the pitch and stood at the back of the goal to watch the
last 10 - 15 minutes of matches.Last Sunday Leeds United and the media have claimed that Sam incited the crowd by doing it during the Leeds game. Personally I think thats rubbish, it may not have been the best of idea's to do it in such a high profile match but there's no way it incited a riot as has been quoted in the press. Sam had a good relationship with the Leeds before the game, he stood before them and help up a sign welcoming them to Cardiff. He wandered past them and was stood behind the goal when Scott Young scored the historic winner. Now though with the spotlight on Sam and CCFC he has decided to stop. Sam said "I have decided to stop doing it. Clearly there are a lot of people in the football world, some of them good friends of mine and others I have a lot of respect for, and the general consensus is that I should not be doing it. In view of that I fear I really should stop doing that because if I don't it is going to become a very major issue, even though it is in my rights to do it and even though it has never caused a problem ever, including during the Leeds game. If I do it this Saturday or a Saturday in six months' time it will become an issue. We need to preserve the good name of football." Sam has always claimed he has permission to walk around the pitch and he's never been asked by a referee to stop. There are claims and counterclaims with the Football League over this permission with the league saying they have asked him to stop. Sam has always been adamant he is allowed. |
