Spencer Prior thumped home his second goal of the season give City a vital away win at Colchester. It was not vintage City but at this stage of the season the points are all that matter. Rob Earnshaw, on as a sub for the injured Andy Campbell, rattled the bar with an audacious 30 yard effort but it was nervy stuff as City held on. Gary Croft replaced Scott Young in the starting line up. Croft played at left back with Daniel Gabbidon moving next to Spencer Prior in central defence. The win was City's fifth on the trot. The last three of them coming with clean sheets as well. Lennie has now gone 10 games unbeaten since taking over, he has picked up 36 points from a possible 30 and City are one win from a guaranteed play off spot and could still have a say in the second promotion place battle. City have attracted some negative headlines as well with the one minutes silence for the Queen Mother being halted after 20 seconds with sections of the City support failing to observe the silence. As far as the rest of the days football goes here a run down. Top of the table
Brighton will be promoted, as Champions as well I'm sure of it. They need one more win to make sure of promotion and that will be enough to take the title as well. The Seagull's, thanks to Bobby Zamora again, won 1 - 0 at Peterborough today. Brentford move second after beating Huddersfield 3 - 0. Reading play at Tranmere on Sunday. Stoke lost at Oldham 2 - 1 and of course City won at Colchester. Bristol City kept their hopes alive with a home win over Bury while Q.P.R. are still hanging in there with a win at Swindon. For City to be promoted automatically we must win all three of our remaining games. Then it's down to the other teams. We cannot afford for Reading or Brentford to pick up more than three points. Reading play away at Tranmere tomorrow. If they win then I think they will go on and get the necessary points need to stop us catching them. If they lose then its possible for City to make it very uncomfortable for the Thames Valley teams. City need just three points to make totally sure of a play off place. Bristol City could still get into the play offs at Huddersfield's expense. A poor run from the Terriers leaves them looking over their shoulder as Bristol will be hoping City beat Huddersfield on Tuesday. On the bandwagon rolls towards Huddersfield. Its pay at the gate with 4,000 spaces for Bluebirds fans. Many will travel as the win will see us into the play offs for sure. The transformation since Lennie took over is amazing. We were mid table going no where. We will probably miss out on automatic promotion but with most fans resigned to anothe rseason in Division 2 we now look to have a one in four chance of making it to Division 1. On a sadder note Wrexham were relegated to Division 3. They went out fighting though with a 5 - 0 win over Cambridge. Lee Jones, playing week to week hoping for a contract, scored all 5 goals. |
