A first goal of the season for Layton Maxwell and a debut goal for Andy Campbell earned City a third consecutive league win for the first time this season. This was Lennie Lawrence's third game in charge, all three wins. City have adopted a more tenacious defence and while we did let in a sloppy goal today we were able to hang on to secure the victory. You can't call any of last three performances top draw entertainment but are winning games and its great. Maxwell scored for City after 32 mins, the Bluebirds fought well in the first half and Maxwell's shot through a sea of players left the keeper no chance. City though allowed Northampton to bundle in an equaliser, a cross from the right was not cleared and Marco Gabbiadini gratefully scored on 35 mins. But only 2 mins after that Andy Campbell raced clear and from a tight angle scored in off the post. He went mad and ran to the Northampton fans to show them his name then raced down to the City fans who were cheering wildly. Second half City were forced back and chances were few are far between for the Bluebirds. Peter Thorne had a goal dis-allowed when either he or Leo was penalised for pushing but it was mostly Northampton pressure. Despite their greater chances created I don't recall Alexander having a second half save to make. Shots and headers all went high and wide. The play offs are right there in front of us and second place is only 7 points away. City now have two home games in the next week. What chance of 5 wins in a row? |
