After missing a game in midweek because of a postponement it seems such a long time since City played. Later today the Bluebirds run out onto Sixfields Stadium. A load of old Cobblers I hear you say and you are right. The Cobblers though have a fine record at home against City at Sixfields. Last game there was in the LDV Vans Trophy in 1999. Northampton won 1 - 0. In the 1996 / 7 season City went there 3 times. We lost 2 - 0 in the League Cup going out 2 - 1on agg, then we were thumped 4 - 0 in the league and when we went back in the play off semi finals we were beaten 3 - 2 at Sixfields, 4 - 2 on agg. You may remember their smug manager at the time, a man I never ever found warming, not even when he came to Cardiff City this season, Ian Atkins. City are looking for that 3rd league win on the trot, not achieved this season but you'd think a sure thing against a relegation struggler? Well maybe not, Northampton have not lost at home since the end of 2001. 5 games without defeat. We did beat them at Ninian Park courtesy of two penalties. The first one Kav missed but the ball rebounded to him off the keeper and he made no mistake with the rebound. Brayson scored from the spot for the second goal. City have sold their 1,300 allocation for today's game and their will be a superb atmosphere. Andy Campbell will make his debut, Layton Maxwell will start the game. Line up expected to be Alexander, Low, Weston, Young, Gabbidon, Legg, Boland, Maxwell, Bowen, Thorne, Campbell. Subs Walton, Prior, Brayson, Leo FW, Simpkins. City will be without Mark Bonner, Des Hamilton, David Hughes, Gavin Gordon and Rob Earnshaw, all injured but all bar Earnie will start to be available from next week. Have a safe journey to Northampton. I'll see you there. |
