Cardiff City news 02/02/02

Sat 2nd February 2002. Saturday round up.

City remain in 10th place after today's full Division 2 programme. Amazingly only one team in the top half of the table, Oldham, won today. They earned a 2 - 0 win at Notts County.

There were some surprises today, most noticeably was the 3 - 1 win for Bournemouth over Stoke City. Bournemouth were without a win in 12 games while a win for Stoke would have taken back into second place. It was Bournemouth though who triumphed. Gulp, City visit Dean Court on Tuesday, lets hope Bournemouth's win today was a flash in the pan and we can get a win there on Tuesday.

Leaders Reading were held at Bury, John Salako scored a late equaliser for Reading. The biggest crowd of the day, over 18,000 saw Q.P.R held at home by bottom of the table Cambridge. Bristol City and Huddersfield drew with each other.

Of the other top 10 teams Brighton of course played us on Thursday, Brentford drew at Colchester and Tranmere were held at home by Chesterfield.

At the bottom there was a welcome win for Wrexham, 3 - 2 at Peterborough. They are still four points from the safety zone. Cambridge, despite their point and Q.P.R look doomed and it was a bad day for Notts County and Northampton as both lost.

City are still in the mix. 11 points from an automatic spot with no games in hand over Brighton but only 5 points off the last play off spot with two games in hand on Oldham who are currently 6th.

City play at Bournemouth on Tuesday with a win unlikely to move City up a place. Tranmere are 3 points ahead and 5 goals better off. They also play on Tuesday, at Brighton. 6 of the top 10 teams play Tuesday, the three already mentioned and Bristol City, Q.P.R and Huddersfield.
