Former City boss Frank Burrows is to have a major operation. While its not been revealed the exact nature of the surgery it is evidently a very serious matter.

May I wish Frank all the best and I hope all goes well. Good luck.

Statement from www.wba.co.uk
Gary Megson has revealed the “shattering” news that his assistant Frank Burrows is facing a critical operation.

The flat-capped No.2 is set to undergo “major” surgery this weekend and could be missing from the club for up to six weeks.

In his absence, Megson has promoted reserves boss Gary Shelton to first-team coaching duty while Alan Crawford and Craig Shakespeare will run the second string and youth team.

The Albion boss was unwilling to disclose the nature of Burrows’ operation and did not even inform the players of the Scotsman’s condition until half-time yesterday.

Megson has dedicated the 1-0 victory over Gillingham – Albion’s first of the season - to the former Cardiff and Swansea manager.

“Frank has got to go into hospital for a major operation on Saturday and our thoughts are with him, his wife and family,” he said.

“I’ve known about if for three weeks but it’s been on Frank’s mind for a long time.

“On top of everything else that has been going on here of late, this has been the biggest single issue for the people who have known.

“Frank didn’t want me to, but I told the players about it yesterday and to go out and win the game for him.

“I didn’t want him sitting in hospital worrying about the start we’d made.”

Megson insists Burrows’ charisma and knowledge will be sorely missed while he recuperates.

“Frank is a great help to me and a fantastic asset to the club,” he added.

“I’m led to believe he will be in hospital for ten–14 days and, if everything goes according to plan, a recuperation time of another four weeks.

“We’re hoping he comes back as fit and strong as he is at the moment. In the meantime, we will just have to muddle through.”
