With all the attention being on our promotion I've not really taken a look at the
rest of Division 3. At the top Brighton are set to capture the championship. The Seagulls are two points clear of Chesterfield with a game in hand and they actually play the Spirites on Tuesday night. Chesterfield currently in second spot are still awaiting their fate regarding a points deduction. It is suspected that the 9 point deduction will be enfored and Chesterfield will need a point from their remaining two games to ensure promotion. As for the play offs Hartlepool are definately in, Hull have an outside chance of straight promotion if Chesterfield have 9 points taken away and lose their last two games and Orient will make it if they win on Saturday. The battle is between Blackpool and Rochdale. Pool have 69 points with one game to go. Dale are on 67 points with 2 games to go. That will be settled on Saturday whatever the result between Rochdale and Plymouth on Tuesday. At the bottom its a bit more complicated. Saturdays clash at Underhill between Barnet and Torquay should settle who goes down. A Barnet win would send Torquay down, likewise a Torquay win would send Barnet down. A draw though would bring Carlisle and Halifax into the equation if they both lose in midweek. Two defeats for Halifax, who play Brighton and Chesterfield in their last two games could see them go down if Barnet draw. Same for Carlisle, two defeats for them and a draw would be enough for Barnet and Torquay to survive. |
