Cork refused to accept he is under pressure after Saturdays goalless draw at Notts County. "I'm not under pressure from anyone really because there's only man in charge and that's Sam. He deals with the pressure. I'm on the football." Cork also denied rumour of any rift between the players by saying "The lads are great. They all stick together and they're all mates" When asked about the fight between Willie Boland and Leo FW last Tuesday that saw Boland booked Cork said "You have to have some passion in football. That's what football is all about. That's why the fans come and boo and scream, because they're passionate about Cardiff City. The players are the same." Cork came under some heavy critisism from City fans in Nottingham after a second successive, uninspiring draw. There were many chants of "Cork Out" but the man himself seems unphased. The critisism is not just from the fans. The local papers in Cardiff have all critisised and questioned his tactics and selections. Even the Echo today for the match report questioned many aspects of Cork's abilities, he decisions, his team selections, his refusal to play certain players. In fact the Echo match report does not mention one incident from the game. Cork was grilled excellently last week by Graham Lloyd, Graham has his critics as a commentator, but as a reporter he was spot on. He pushed Cork about the inclusion of James Collins when experienced players like Kevin Nugent were left out of the side. Cork, it seemed from the interview, had not even thought of Nugent. Then 4 days later Nugent appears in the side. Coincidence? or is Cork now letting the media make his choices for him. My concern is for my football club to do well. At the moment we are flattering to deceive, but we have lost only 1 in 11 I hear you call, yes but we have drawn 6 of those games against teams we should have beaten. You say we would have taken this position at this stage if offered it 12 months ago, yes of course we would have but when you spend so much on quality players and you see the relatively poor teams in Div 2 at the moment we should be doing better. Players like Spencer Prior, Graham Kavanagh and Peter Thorne have come here for promotion and the chance to play in Division 1. Not to be part of a multi million pound mediocre set up. City have thrown away leads against Huddersfield (lost 2 - 1), Q.P.R (lost 2 - 1), Bristol City (drew 1 - 1), Tranmere (drew 1 - 1), Colchester (drew 1 - 1), we cannot put in a 90 minute performace. Its not just me and the keyboard warriors on the MB having a go. A 17,000 opening day crowd has dropped to 8,000 for the last home game. Fans are talking with their feet. The press are starting to increase the pressure on Cork as well. Cork has three home games coming up in 8 days. Two league games and an FA Cup game. Failure to deliver in those games (and I mean improved performances as well results) will in my opinion put Cork in an untennable position. I feel we need an experienced manager / coach, someone who can handle a £6m squad and who will earn their respect. I'm afraid Alan Cork at this moment in time does not convince me he is able to do either. |
