| Fri 26th October 2001 - Tranmere preview | |
| October Headlines |
For only the 4th time ever a Tranmere team visit Ninian Park tomorrow. Both team are firmly in mid table with Tranmere 12th with 21 points and City 14th with 20 points. The Bluebirds have two games in hand though. Tranmere have only been here three times before. Historical form shows no favourites as there has been a win for City, a win for Tranmere and most recently a 0 - 0 draw in January 1990. Tranmere are managed by former Everton player Dave Watson and he watched City at Port Vale on Wednesday night. Tranmere are hoping to have star player Jason Koumas fit for tomorrows game but he is struggling with a back injury. Cardiff look likely to start with the XI who started against Port Vale. Theres no firm news on the progress of Peter Thorne so Gavin Gordon is likely to feature again. Leo FW is fit so Cork has that option as well. Andy legg and Rhys Weston should both be able to take their places in the team after chest infection scares. City squad is : N Alexander; R Weston, S Prior, D Gabbidon, A Legg; W Boland, J Bowen, G Kavanagh (capt), P Brayson, G Gordon, R Earnshaw. Subs (from) L Kendall, M Giles, S Young, D Hughes, J Low, L Fortune-West, D Hamilton. Tranmere Rovers: J Murphy, S Yates, G Roberts, G Allen, I Sharps, M Mellon, N Henry, J Koumas, S Flynn, S Barlow, P Rideout. The ticket office have already sold over 10,000 tickets so City will continue to perform to crowds of over 11,000 (not one league game has dropped below that amount). City will be looking for a third consecutive win which would take them into the top half of the table. The Bluebirds still have games in hand and as long as the wins keep coming can be considered top of the table contenders. The stats have turned around this week. Before last weekends game at Swindon the record showed only 6 points taken from the previous 21. This week a far healthier 9 points from 15 is the reward for 5 games unbeaten. Rob Earnshaw will be hoping to pay fines to Alan Cork this weekend. Earnie will have to pay £200 a goal if he somersaults after scoring. Given that he's reportedly on £1,000 a goal bonus I'm sure he won't mind coughing up. In fact for £1,000 a goal I think I'd be temped to try a somersault. Kick off at Ninian Park is at 3:00pm. Its going to be busy so make sure you allow plenty of time to get into the ground. Remember as well the draw for the 1st round of the FA Cup is made at approx 5:15pm. |
