Fri 25th May 2001 - Simpkins signs

Chesterfield have confirmed this afternoon that 22 year old Michael Simpkins has joined Cardiff City on a free transfer. There has been no word from Cardiff City on the matter, they will only say that 3 players are in advanced stages of discussions. One of them we now take to have been Simpkins. Neil Alexander I would guess to be the second player with an unknown third player.

Simpkins, born 28/11/78 is a left sided defender / wing back. Chesterfield's www.spirezine.co.uk say of the player

"Michael is a young player with a lot of potential who until recently hadn't really featured much in action with the Chesterfield first team. Under Nicky Law, Simpkins has been a regular starter when not injured and is tipped by many fellow team-mates to make the big time.

Simpkins is a product of the youth system at Saltergate after being orignally released by Sheffield Wednseday. He is usually employed by Law as either a left back or an attcking left hand sided midfielder."
