The official City website has called to question the stats produced by John Heyda that claims City's record unbeaten home run in the league was 27 games. While not recognising that they originated from an unofficial website the club refute John's claim and say the record is 26 games. Richard Shepherd the club historian and programme editor has found out that the previous record was 26 games, therefore claiming we had already beaten the record. I'm sorry to say that Mr Shepherd is in fact incorrect and the run is 27 games.

The club have made an error in their calculations. They say the 1938 / 39 does not count but it does. That was the last fully completed season before the country went to war. The records that were scratched were from 1939 / 40 season.

The facts are

1938 / 1939 season (end of)

Cardiff 2 - 4 Aldershot 08-04-1939
Cardiff 1 - 0 Southend 10-04-1939  - 1st game of the sequence
Cardiff 4 - 1 Notts Co  17-04-1939
Cardiff 3 - 1 Torquay   22-04-1939
Cardiff 0 - 0 Mansfield 29-04-1939

1946 / 1947 season

All 21 home league games unbeaten. (we actually won 18 out of 21)

1947 / 1948 season (start of)

Cardiff 0 - 0 Chesterfield 23-08-1947
Cardiff 3 - 0 Doncaster   25-08-1947  - 27th and last game unbeaten.
Cardiff 0 - 3 Tottenham   06-09-1947

  4 games from 1938 / 39
21 games from 1946 / 47
  2 games from 1947 / 48

27 games in total.

I hope the club confirm this to be correct.
