City remain in 3rd place after todays games, better still a win at Kidderminster tomorrow will lift the Bluebirds into 2nd place.

Leaders Chesterfield put their off the field worries behind them to beat play-off hopefulls Blackpool 2 - 1 at Saltergate. That gives them a 19 point lead over City but we do have 4 games in hand and the Spirites have to visit Ninian Park. If Chesterfield survive the catalogue of charges for financial irregularities that have been levied against them then there is no doubt they will be promoted. If they are prevented from going up then City, who should go up any way, will be odds on for promotion and a good bet for the title.

The main rivals as far as City are concerned (Chesterfield excepted) are Brighton and Hartlepool. Both failed today to beat lower table opposition at home. Brighton drew 1 - 1 at home to York. The Minstermen beat Rochdale in midfweek and then a point at Brighton today, all this when last Tuesday morning they were bottom of the football league. Hartlepool were favourites to beat Mansfield at Victoria Park and leap frog City but they were held 1 - 1 as well.

Leyton Orient were the only other team in the top 7 to win, they won 3 - 2 at Lincoln. Blackpool remain 6th despite their 2 - 1 defeat at Chesterfield.

The most incredible result was at Spotland, Rochdale who's defence has been as tight as the proverbial (insert as you see fit) were hit for 7 goals by Shrewsbury. 19 year old Luke Rogers scored a hattrick and was sent off 2 mins after scoring his third goal. Before today Shrewsbury had scored only 8 times away from home. Incredible. City visit Gay Meadow to play the Shrews in a couple of weeks time.

City's next visitors to Ninian Park are Hull next Friday, the Tigers have put there off field worries behind them and they have moved to the edge of the play off zone with 5 straight wins.

At the bottom of the table Carlisle are propping up the whole football league. They went down by a goal to nil at a resurgent Exeter City. Former City player Chris Roberts again on the scoresheet for the Grecians.
