Premiership defender Dean Gordon has joined Cardiff City on a months loan from Middlebrough. The 28 year old former England U21 international is a highly rated player and was tipped to become a full England International. A cruciate ligament injury in 1999 laid him off for a long while at a time when he was being tipped as a full England player.

I'm sure most if not all City fans will have heard of him before and its great to see top quality players coming to Ninian Park.

Looking around at information on Dean I have come up with the following.

Fly Me To The Moon - Boro Fanzine
Rare left footed left sided defender, who is usually comfortable as wing back. Excellent galloping forwards, with fantastic crossing ability. Without a doubt, if Dean hadn't seriously hurt himself against Derby in season 1999/2000, he would have snatched the pieces of turf that the useless Phil Neville used for England.

from the terrace.co.uk
Dean was a product of the Palace youth system and signed for boro for a bargain £900k. Was in sparkling form and considered to be on the verge of the full England squad when he damaged a cruciate ligament and missed out of the best part of a season.

Dean Gordon hs played the last few years in the Premiership. He is an exciting attacking full back and will go straight into the City line up as left back against Notts County on Saturday replacing Andy Legg.

Dean has played in over 60 Premiership games for Middlesbrough scoring 5 times, most memorably in the 3 - 2 win at Old Trafford over Man Utd. Prior to that he made over 200 league appearances for Crystal Palace. Total career appearances go over 300 games.

The move is initially for 1 month but Gordon is keeping his options open. He was hoping to move to a first division club but the appeal of Cardiff City, the fans, the ambition and Sam Hammam  brought him into the second division. He will discuss the future with Sam at a later date. If he was to move it's thought a fee of around £500,000 would be paid. Gordon is thought to be on £8,000 a week for his stay here.

Welcome to Ninian Park.
