Fri 21st September 2001 - City home in LDV

Cardiff City have been drawn at home to league new boys Rushden and Diamonds in the first round of the LDV Vans Trophy.

The competition is split into Northern and Southern sections with the winners of each section meeting in a Millennium Stadium final.

Brian Talbot, the Diamonds manager is currently offering a trial to Kurt Nogan. Nogan follows Jason Fowler who was on trial at the start of the season.

City's record in this competition in recent years has been pretty poor.

2000 first round defeat at Brighton.
1999 first round defeat at Northampton.
1998 first round defeat at Millwall
1997 first round defeat at home to Millwall

We did actually make the second round in 1996. An away win at Gillingham followed by a penalties home defeat by Exeter City. Those were the days eh?
