Cardiff City start the new 2001 / 2002 season with a home tie against Wycombe Wanderers at Ninian Park on August 11th, ko 3:00pm. Wycombe you will remember were FA Cup semi finalists last season losing out to Liverpool. Of Course their manager Lawrie Sanchez is one of Sam's close friends. Sanchez scored the FA Cup winning goal for Sam's Wimbledon in 1988, Alan Cork played alongside Sanchez and Bobby Gould was the manager. A nice little reunion but no favours on the pitch. City need to get off with a win.

Fixture list day is an exciting time especially after a promotion. Tranmere Rovers who dropped from Div 1 will visit Cardiff on Saturday 27th October and the return match at Prenton Park is the last game of the season on Saturday April 20th 2002.

The first local derby against Bristol City is at Ashton Gate on Bank Holiday Monday August 27th with the return at Ninian Park on Saturday December 29th. In fact Christmas this year gets very interesting. Stoke away on the 22nd, Reading at home on the 26th and Bristol City at home on the 29th, followed with a trip to Brentford on New Years Day. I hope they make it all ticket this time.

There's not much fun if you were hoping for some sunny seaside weekenders. Blackpool away on Saturday December 15th, Bournemouth away on Saturday 5th January and Brighton away on Saturday 2nd February.

Matches will inevitably be changed. There are two clashes with the Rugby at the Millennium Stadium and potentailly a third. Saturday 13th October Wales play Ireland in the carried over 6 nations match. City are at home to Wigan on that day. Saturday 10th November Wales play Argentina when City are at home to Chesterfield. The other potential clash is 17th November. Wales are at home to Tonga while its FA Cup round 1, a 50 / 50 chance we will be at home. The 6 nations games in Feb / March next year do not clash as City are scheduled to be away each time Wales are at home. The police will have a say in some games, possibly the matches against Bristol City and Stoke, kick off times and dates could be altered. The other factor is live television. ITV Digital will be showing live games on Thursdays and Sundays. That may or may not affect us.
