Both Gudjon Thorardson and Alan Cork were satisfield with a point each for last nights game at the Britannia Stadium. Thorardson has warned his players not to give away free kicks around the box by saying "That was what I feared most - and we played into the hands of it. We knew Cardiff would be a danger around our penalty box with the likes of Graham Kavanagh and Gordon and it was important we did not give fouls away there. Sometimes players need to use their heads just that little bit more and think twice about what they are doing. Not just in this game, but in other games as well. Having said that, I would not blame or criticise anyone for this result. Yes, I am disappointed that we did not win after taking the lead at home but it was a good game. Both teams tried to play football and tried to win. You could say a fair result after 90 minutes, but I think we should be capable of finishing teams off when we go ahead at home. We could have gone 2-0 up quite quickly but missed the chances. Overall, though, I cannot complain about our commitment and effort. There is no questioning our team spirit - the players are putting everything in and helping each other out all over the pitch. We were not beaten by Cardiff, which was important, and we are still on our target of two points per game." Thorardson was also highly impresssed with Neil Alexander "I thought their keeper was their best man. "He was very sharp and bright in the box, and I give credit to Cardiff and how well they played - they've got some good players. "It was a tough game. It was a good competitive match and I thought we were brave and did well." Alan Cork said "It was an enjoyable game. They are a good side and not many teams come here and get something out of the game. "If you get beat against other teams in the top six you're playing catch-up, but I thought we played well for 90 minutes. Ian Butterworth told City's official website We didnt take long to hit back, Deans goal is becoming bread and butter for him from the free kick and we were unlucky not to get a few more goals, we hit the bar a few times and the ball went a few inches wide a couple of times when the keeper was at odds. We could have had a win but well be happy to go home on the long trek south knowing that weve got a point and they failed to take the three points from us. |
