Cardiff
City will in fact start with the same line up that took the field against Wigan last
weekend. The Bluebirds will play Alexander, Weston, Prior, Gabbidon, Simpkins, Kavanagh, Boland, Bowen, Brayson, Thorne, Earnshaw. Speaking to the press on Friday Alan Cork started off by talking about being away from home. "Right now we might be better off playing away because we seem a bit nervous at home. Cardiff City fans are amazing, they are superb, but their passion can make the players a bit nervy. There will be 3,000 Bluebirds fans at Swindon and that's great. We need to get a win and start a little run to build confidence. The match at Swindon will be difficult, but both teams try to play football and it should be good to watch." Cork told of the fun in the dressing room after last Tuesday's 7 - 1 win over Rushden. "There have been plenty of giggles about that - plenty of stick handed out. Team spirit is excellent and that result in midweek lifted spirits all round - and produced the opportunity for some good banter. Team spirit is 40 per cent of the job in football, and all we need is a little bit of luck. I've been watching our match against Wigan Athletic on video and we had 23 shots to their 14 - they had three shots in the second half and scored a goal. We aren't doing a lot wrong, we are creating chances and we'll score goals. But our mistakes get punished. The players believe in what we are doing, we are playing entertaining football and we'll keep doing that." When asked about the line up Cork gave clear indication that things would be left as they are, "The problem is, who would I leave out from Paul Brayson, Peter Thorne and Robert Earnshaw? In my view we couldn't leave any of those three out. Gavin did exceptionally well against Rushden and it is always a tremendous feat to score five, but it has to be said Rushden were a poor side." Swindon boss Roy Evans, formally the Liverpool coach, is looking forward to a big game at the County Ground. "It looks like being a decent crowd for the game, and Cardiff will bring quite a few with them. Hopefully, more of our supporters will come out to watch, which would be great. Our support has been great so far this season but it would be good to see another improvement in numbers. Obviously with the game being on the television as well, we want to make sure we do well in it. It's going to be tough, but there are no easy games." Evans could see that City are not where they want to be and said "Cardiff City are a decent team who have spent a bit of money this season and their ambition is there to see. But they haven't had it all their own way this season and we can go in there with a bit of confidence." |
