Has
Gavin Gordon earned himself a start against Swindon? It appears not. Alan Cork appears to be behind his current first XI and Gordon looks set for a place on the bench. Cork played down Gordon's 5 goal haul and looks set to keep faith in Peter Thorne and Rob Earnshaw. Cork said "I'm thrilled for the lad, but it doesn't mean Gavin will automatically be in the side at Swindon. What do you expect me to do? Leave out Peter Thorne or Robert Earnshaw? We have got to put things in perspective a bit. Gordon did superbly well but remember it was against a Third Division side who were decimated by injuries and had to field a lot of reserves. I know goals are goals at whatever level they are scored but it is a different world in the Second Division." Gavin himself was overjoyed with his haul and accepted he had lost form earlier in the season. "I could not argue with losing my place after being in the side for the first two games of the season. With all the new players coming in it meant there was a lot of pressure for places and I think it got to me a bit. I didn't do myself justice and wasn't playing with full confidence. But I feel I am ready to stake a claim a place for a regular place now. I feel I have gradually found my form again over the past month or so. To have a night like I did against Rushden was just fantastic." Gavin was thankful to partner that night Kevin Nugent. "I had never even scored a hat-trick before at senior level so it is something I will always remember, especially as it has put me into the record books. "I had a lot to thank the other players for because the quality of their work gave me the chances. I was particularly pleased with my fourth goal because it came from a superb pass from my co-striker Kevin Nugent. He is such a good player and a tremendous example for someone like me to learn from." |
