When was the last time a City player scored five goals in a game?

Well it was a aquestion posed to statto John Heyda.

Overnight John has found out that Derek Tapscott scored 6 for City in a 16 - 0 Welsh Cup 5th round win over Knighton in 1961 and Peter Kitchen scored 5 in a 6 - 0 win over Cardif Corinthians around the 1980 season. Again that was in the Welsh Cup. Our good friends at the Echo have also found Gerry Hitchens v Oswestry in 1956 and Brian Clark v Barmouth in 1970.

In fully recognised League / Cup games (of which last nights is classed) we have to go pre WW 2.

Three times in league matches City have had a player scoring 5 times.

* Hughie Ferguson got five in City's 7 - 0 triumph over Burnley on September 1, 1928.

* Walter Robbins got five when City blasted Thames 9 - 2 on February 6, 1932.  That result is also City's all-time record league
win.

* Jim Henderson got five in City's 6 - 0 win over Northampton Town on April 22, 1933.

So Gavin gas become the first City player to score 5 in a game against League opposition since 1933.

John is currently trawling the history books to find out the last time a City player scored a first half hat trick. Earnie did it in the second half against Bristol Rovers last season, but a first half hat trick is another matter.
