City's
new team captain Graham Kavanagh will be fit to lead the Bluebirds in their first pre
season game at Merthyr tomorrow night (7:45pm). Kavanagh has surprised everyone by
recovering from a double hernia op and has proved in training he is ready to play.
Kavanagh was announced as team captain last weekend and is ready to lead. Kav will also lead the team on the tour of Ireland. It was thought he would only be ready to play in the home games against Crystal Palace and Coventry but the £million man is ready to go. City travel to Merthyr with a 26 man squad. Alexander, Kendall, Boland, Bonner, Bowen, Brayson, Collins, Earnshaw, Evans, Giles, Jones, Leo FW, Hamilton, Gabbidon, Gordan, Hughes, Jeanne, Jordan, Kavanagh, Legg, Low, Maxwell, Simpkins, Prior, Weston and Young. Mark Walton is recovering from a cartlidge operation and Kevin Nugent has a slight thigh pull. They will miss the Merthyr and Ireland games at least. The other 6 squad players, all on the transfer list, are left out of the Merthyr trip but will feature in the reserve team friendly at Mangotsfield, Bristol on Thursday, ko 7:00pm. Also included will be Craig Hogg a teenage triallist from Everton. City then travel to Ireland on Friday with a 23 man squad. James Collins, Martyn Giles and Gethin Jones drop out of the 26 who are on duty at Merthyr. City play at Athlone Town on Saturday afternoon 2:30pm and at Longford Town on Monday @ 7:00pm. The first home friendly is on Saturday July 28th, just 11 days time against Steve Bruce's Crystal Palace. |
