| February Headlines |
City cruised to a comfortable 3 - 0 home win at Ninian Park today. Scunthorpe looked a useful side and passed the ball well but were poor when it came to threatening the City goal. The Bluebirds on the other hand looked more likely to score. City used a combination of passing and long ball and there were good displays from Boland, Legg and Bowen. The star of the first half though was Daniel Gabbidon. Firstly he headed in an Andy Legg free kick on 35 mins. City had bombarded the Scunny goal with several legg throw ins before the free kick was awarded. Legg whipped it in and Gabbidon was quickest to react and get his head to the ball. Just 7 mins later and a goal mouth scramble saw the ball run loose towards Gabbidon. With no hesitation the wing back fired the ball back into the goal. Half time 2 - 0. The second half became like an exhibition. City passed well, performed well and played some great football at times. Jason Bowen and Paul Brayson ran the Scunthorpe defence ragged at times but City were not able to finish, defending was easy enough, box to box Willie Boland ran the show but the final touch was lacking. Matt Brazier scored City's third to round off the performance. Brazier was on the pitch for 30 seconds before latching onto a Jason Bowen cross to score with his first touch. City could have scored 6, at times they were guilty of trying to walk the ball into the net. Scunthorpe did force Mark Walton into a fine save late on but City deserved their clean sheet. So the 5 hour goal drought is over, the February bogey has been broken. City stay 3rd and now must travel to Halifax on Tuesday and Kidderminster next Sunday. Finally I'd just like to comment on the committment levels of the players. No challenge was shirked and even lost causes were chased. It was great to see 11 players play for their shirt. Well done. |
