City will give the reserve team a run out against Rushden and Diamonds in the LDV Vans
Trophy and Ninian Park on Tuesday, 7:45pm. The squad is Walton, Kendall, Thompson, Hughes, Young, Brazier, Maxwell, Bonner, Hamilton, Gordon, Fortune West, Low, Fowler, Gethin Jones, Nicky Fish, Byron Anthony, Martyn Giles. The nature of this game rather than a reserve team game is a bit more high profile and good performances could result in players putting themselves in contention for a first team place. There are certain players though in the first team who seem to have a guranteed start. Cork has said that if players are playing well they will not be dropped. We have players who are not playing well and they can't seem to get dropped either. Brazier, Thompson and Hamilton are three players I think could do a better job than the full backs we are currently playing. Maybe a sparkling performance against Rushden will give them a crack at a first team place. I don't mean any disrespect to Rhys Weston and Michael Simpkins but they are struggling in the first team and a rest may be good for them. The squad above is Ian Butterworth's reserve squad they are unbeaten in the Avon Combination League. Lets hope for some progress in this competition, we have been knocked out in the first round for the past few seasons. The bookies have us at 7/1 joint favourites for the Trophy this season. The incentive is there. A final at the Millennium Stadium. |
