| September Headlines |
City came away from the Abbey Stadium with nothing after the divisions bottom side at the start of play shocked the big spending Bluebirds. An hour of poor play allowed Cambridge to take control of the game and City never had a look in. Dave Kitson scored for Cambridge in the 14th minute and the U's ruled to game in all departments. City never appeared up for it and were nver able to get a hold. The second half started much the same and things didn't improve for City until new boy Peter Thorne came on along with Andy Legg with an hour gone. City were able to increase the pressure as they searched for an equaliser but the killer blow came on 72 mins when paul Wanless scored Cambridge's second. City again pressed and went close with several shots raining in. Leon Jeanne came on for the last 10 mins and City were far more threatening. The goal for City came deep injury time when a Leon Jeanne cross was headed against the bar by Peter Thorne and Legg followed up to hammer home. The final whistle went seconds after Cambridge re-started and City's unbeaten start to the season was over. To many players were off form today and City must bounce back on Tuesday when they entertain Northampton at Ninian Park. Northampton are now bottom of Division 2 after being beaten at home today. City have dropped to 13th place. |
